Did it twice to him in the Abu Dhabi race....He has always done that too late last split second lunge ending up forcing drivers off. FIA investigations need badly bolstering. Then banned for a race if does it again and next time for a year...There is no room for this BS at the speeds and expense that F1 incurs when this crap goes wrong. What would have happened if the rear wheels had gotten under each other and Lando got launched onto his head and gotten badly hurt? We cant have repeats of the Monza race where Max and Hamilton came together in the first chicane after the straight. Max fan here, but Lando should have won the race today. He was clearly the faster driver, and that should have been the outcome… the faster driver and car should be the winner. This was not Max’s finest moment and Lando has the right to feel aggrieved. I attended my first GP in 1968, and witnessed many wheel-to-wheel battles over the years. The difference was that drivers ultimately showed each other respect and, after a race, would congratulate one another, win or lose. When winning supersedes sportsmanship, it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth à-la Prost and Senna.

Too many British crybabies crying rivers. It’s a race incident. Last week Norris pushed Verstappen off track at the start of the race. The first divebomb of Norris required Max to take evasive actions, and Norris has to give the position back. From that point onwards elbows were out. It’s was racing on the limit and somewhat beyond. And yes, Max had responsibility in the collision, but people who race for the win, and the championship, can’t give positions away. It is pn the limit and let the jury decide what that limit is. Saw Senna and Schumi recently. They tried to murder their opponent compared to this incident.

Verstappen was blind but for a small mirror on the left WHILE turning right and very slightly drifting left to set it up. He gave LOTS of room on the left side. Norris drove his car right into that as if the drifting car wasn't there, and somehow it's Verstappen's fault.

Max's statement was correct he held the wheel straight and did not steer left under braking, he continued his trajectory which was a straight line to the point where the contact occurred. Watch the on board camera. Lando was behind and heading for virtually the same position. there was no barrier to his left and only needed to put a wheel on the kerb as he frequently did throughout the race and the collision would not have happened.

I agree with Horner. It was a racing incident, during a many laps long intense battle. Norris was frustrated, on new mediums not being able to pass Max on scrubbed, after also being passed and beaten by Verstappen in the sprint. At the end, Max increased his lead over Norris to 81 points, taking home 18 points after the weekend. Norris will be even more hot headed next weekend in Silverstone. If Max wouldn't have had a bad pitstop, he would have made it to the end. Norris still needs to learn a lot, especially keeping his head cool. "Max may not do this, may not do that, he should give the place back. A lot of whining. Grow up, this is professional hard racing.

I think it was a stupid move. By both... Lando was too eager and couldn't wait. At the time of the crash he wasn't handed the 5 sec penalty. So he should've waited. He had the faster car and a lot of laps to do the move. Also I think there was enough room to avoid the contact. I've seen a lot more overtakes in this very race with a lot less room. So he could've avoided it and even had the opportunity to pass Max on the exit as Max went too deep. He hit Max a second time in the corner which wrecked his front wing. Max already had the puncture. Also I'm not sure when Lando got the puncture but trying to overtake Max through the grass wasn't smart... The end result is that Max extended his lead by 10 points. Even if Lando would've stayed second that would've been only 7 points. If you are in it for the championship you need to be quick. But also clever... This was stupid. Regardless of who was to blame. FIA blamed Max. End of story. But now the (predominantly British) commentators are (again) painting the picture of Max the boogeyman and Lando the saint. The fact is that Max got the points today and Lando lost a whole lot. I hope that when the dust has settled down, Lando can look at it this way. Because that is what he needs to become a champion.

It was not a great race. A standard crash between vercrashen and whomever is trying to pass. I am begining to wonder if versrappens car is magnetic. Is it possible for him to actually race car to car without crashing. F1 is a joke if the cars keep crashing into each other . Clearly max does not feel afraid of crashing the cars, the cars are to safe so the druvers dont think twice about contact. The balance of heroic risk taking of hero drivers and safety is all wrong. James, good article. May I rail against the Stewards who were once again late to the party. They should have given Lando a Time penalty for exceeding track limits before the event in Turn 3 transpired. MV earned a 7 sec lead, only to be lost on a bad wheel nut. If the Stewards would have acted accordingly, instead of in the interest of creating drama, MV would have pulled over and let Lando go, knowing he would get penalized. The golden boy Hamilton would have run Lando the same way, and no one would have cried foul.
