Sharing my 2nd Final Fantasy magical showdown. I will pit the powerful Sorceress Edea from Final Fantasy 8. Against the legendary magical guardian Lulu from Final Fantasy 10.

Yeah, also remember that if you go to Deling City after Edea's killed the president, EVERYONE in there is implied to be brainwashed into loving Edea, she also mind controlled Rinoa, levitated her, created powerful monsters out of statues, killed President Deling with one hand, she levitates, brain-washed Seifer, and after joining the party can Junction every GF (with which she has better compatibility than anyone else) and be equipped with any magic in the game.

Great video man. A thought occurred to me while watching this video have you ever considered doing a team match like the entire party from VII vs the entire party from X. You mentioned during the video the team set up in X allows the party to cover the weaknesses of their allies so it got me thinking. Although I would understand that be extremely difficult from needing to do a lot more research.

Every FF is like that when it comes to team work. FF X just did a better job during tutorial to explain how to use everyone's specialty.

Fun fact: If you complete Lulu's section of the Sphere Grid, she has the highest DEF stat in the whole party (Yes, even higher than Auron).

Even though Edea has a bit more of a "godly" aura to her (probably because of being the main antagonist of the game for a while), both of these women are utterly beautiful, charismatic and classy, I love them just as much and don't care of who would win over who...

As I've said for years now, "there are multiple ways of saying one thing". Like how Sephiroth's sword is traditionally pronounced (masa moon ay), which is how I say it. But we both pronounce Tidus the same.

Whilst I somewhat agree with the parameters set here, lulu’s dolls are not entirely useless, and by the end of FFX she would have access to her celestial weapon - with those abilities giving lulu more free access to her fury overdrive whilst increasing the power of her magic attacks do you think this could go the other way? With break damage limit and flare fury, if lulu got this off after the initial trade of magical attacks would Edea have time to respond do you think?

ultima was put there both to make it even more awkward to reach (for everyone, even kimahri doesn't want it to be there). ...and maybe as a reference to it being null/pure magic rather than any of the various other final fantasy magic categories, even the spell's description has it being a purely arcane spell using magic to cause a physical reaction, it's essentially a technomancer's last attack spell before they start doing really crazy stuff like temporary black holes, time loops, intentionally broken teleportations, or something really terrifying like magical nanites...also not sure why it's called ultima when there are usually several stronger offensive magics.

One issue with this: Edea wouldn't finish off Lulu with an Ice Strike unless Edea were on the losing end. Aura isn't on her default list of spells, and that's the only way she could have used the limit without having to be in critical condition to do it.

Just to make a statement: when I watched Final Fantasy Dissidia, Tidus was called by name by Yuna. She called him TEE DUS. Imagine my disconcertment, as I have been referring to him as Tai Dus for years. Since I do not like people mispronouncing my own name, I shall do this fictional character some justice by referring him correctly as tee dus. So while not criticizing any pronunciations, I highly recommend watching FF Dissidia. Very entertaining!

EveningFantasy It's good to know I'm not alone in how it is said. I've been saying it that way since I was 11 back in 2001 when FFX first came out and I have no plans on changing.

The funny thing about Tidus' name is that, if you take the japanese version at face value, it's pronounced Teedus, and it makes sense, since Tida (the japanese name), is an Okinawan word meaning "sun", and Yuna can be considered as referencing the moon (it's apparently much more complicated than that, but that's the short version. But in english, the Tiedus pronounciation ALSO makes sense, because, well, Tidus is linked to the water element. So, it makes sense to us that his name reflects that link to water and, more specifically, the sea. Bottom line: I say teedus because I'm french, and that's how I've always pronounced it. However, I do not think that my way of pronouncing it is the right one. I think both of them are valid because, depending on where you come from - barring any kind of pronounciation in your own language if it's anything other than japanese or english, like me for example - the pronounciation you're accustomed to makes total sense. It's like a reversible vest: no matter which side you put on, it's still okay.

You left out a few of Edea's abilities and feats such as controlling/brainwashing minds, creating life through inanimate objects, and she does the edge in physical combat with those claws of her, she even lifted the president off the ground using only a single arm and with ease no less. Another thing there weren't many known Sorceresses in Edea's time so the claim of her being the most powerful one is kind of inaccurate. Well none of this really matter as the battle would have been more of stomp in (possessed) Edea's favor. Lulu never had a chance. Even if Yuna were to join the fight would stop Edea from simply controlling her mind as well?

Toriko Toriko just to clarify, Edea is perceived to be the most powerful Sorceress of that era, this is stated if a party member uses scan on her. And I'm not sure about her being able to use mind control .Ultimecia uses Edea to beguile her way to power as shown with her influence over Seifer. Also, a sorceresses physical offence is weak compared to their magical offences, as seen in game, so it's safe to assume she wasn't using her own physical strength to lift the President but instead used her telekinesis.

"Doomsday" doesn't exist in FFX's universe, whereas "Ultima" does exists in both FFX AND FFIX (Trance Kuja uses it before he "dies") and it instant-kill our whole team so...

it's actually tea dus. tie dus became a pronunciation since, in English, his name would likely be pronounced that way based on its spelling. However in Japan it is pronounced TEA dus. Technically since the game is Japanese made, tea dus is the right pronunciation. I do believe that most english fans pronounce it Tie dus anyway and they'll probably yell at you for pronouncing it Tea dus, which is why this guy literally had to make a disclaimer not to piss anyone off. Ultimately what I'm trying to say is, Tea dus is correct, but saying it will produce the most amount of rage if you really plan on trolling.

I always thought Lulu was going to win, but after you mentioned that you were setting a limitation on the amount of magical spells she could use by focusing primarily on her main sphere grid, I knew she was screwed On the other hand, I still do believe that due to Lulu's experience, where she's probably been thrown into these type of combat situations before, I do think that she may come up with a solid response to Edea's reflect, which was the turning point of this fight. But since I haven't played any of these games, I do not know for sure, if anybody can tell me if Lulu does have the ability to do something like that while focusing strictly on her main sphere grid, please tell me

Carlos Dairo Not at all. In fact, that was the one spell Lulu couldn't learn. On top of this, Edea in this matchup was the version of Edea that was possesed by Ultimecia, who is the 3rd strongest FF character. So having even half of that power would bring victory.

Lulu is very talented black magic and magic user. She would know that she would need to cast focus and reflex and the beginning of the battle, whenever I would use Lulu in a boss battle that was the first thing I did. Even if Edea kept casting Malestrom. Lulu would not give up she would look through Edea’s weakness especially if she has her strongest weapon fully powered up. I like Edea but I truly believe that Lulu would be the true winner because even though Edea has the reflect spell. Lulu would know and find a way to get through Edea’s Malestrom spell.

All of Edea's feats in FF8, were Ultimecia's doing. Comparing Edea to Lulu outside of possession, is ignorant, as Edea has not enough feats to make a comparison. Edea does have unlimited magic. She's a fucking sorceress. Drawing/Junctioning are concepts taken from SORCERESSES. The Junction Machine (and the eventual Junction Machine Ellone) is an attempt to REPLICATED A SORCERESSES ABILITY. Their magic is unlimited. Sorceresses have half (albeit the "weak" half) of the CREATOR GODs MAGIC. This is a curbstomp and it isn't even fair. Let us look at the present sorceresses. Adel was a dominative powerhouse. Rinoa through lore was becoming a powerhouse. Ultimecia was a powerhouse. If Edea's abilities were stagnant, and it was just Ultimecia using her abilities, then Edea too was a fucking powerhouse.

If you consider All the spells they can learn, Lulu can totally destroy Edea. My Lulu had all black and white magic including ultima, meteor, flare, curaga, life, haste, holy, death, reflect, the double magic ability and deal 9999+ damage. She could also learn all of wakkas/tidus/auron physical abilities and be able to mute or blind only using her weapon. Lulu wouldn't even give Edea time to react.

nifan Yeah if we include every spell in the game that can be learned by everyone then of course Lulu would win but since she is limited to only her section of the grid then that means no light or defensive magic.

Also because as a natural in world fighter even if lulu learned physical attacks it wouldn't do her no good, because she is still a magic based user. there would only be a few attacks that would be useful to her.
