Your videos are so entertaining and well researched! I love all the animations and jingles. You’re really gifted at video editing! It makes a 10-plus video on watches feel like it’s only five-minute long. The jingle at 4:11 is for me your signature jingle!! Just for reference the "Arrow" seen on all of the brit watches is actually known as a "Crows Foot" and it is the standard marker for all government ordinance hence should only be seen on items actually adopted and issued by the MOD.

Nice watch I think this is by invitation only. Part of the appeal for vintage watches is that those specimens are more handcrafted using older techniques. From around 1930 to 1960 maybe mid 1970s would be the sweet spot. With reissues it's nice to get it in modern sizing, materials etc i can see the appeal.

“You had me at Panerai” lol. Hey Rich, Interesting review on the Vertex MOD watch. In many ways the old military watches set the stage for the Tool/Sports watch craze in terms of style and functional durability. I was an avid collector for the old British Broad Arrow watches back in the day. You could pick them up for relatively cheap in the 80s, 90s. But when the military watch collecting craze really hit in the 2000s I sold them all, like an idiot. I had many by big name watch companies like Lemania, Omega, CWC etc. but the pinnacle of the old British MOD watches was and still is the Rolex 5517 milsub, with all the appropriate markings.
@whatsonthewrist6 жыл бұрын
Hi, evan! Yikes to having to selling those brands. Oh, man. But we couldn't have forecasted the future. Nice choice for the 5517. Thanks, evan for sharing your experiences and for enjoying the show. ☕️😁

I don't feel the need for a modern copy of a classic vintage wristwatch as I have my late father's 1944 Vertex, yes it's one of the Dirty Dozen, still working perfectly and keeping excellent time because it's been used but well looked after. It now sports a NATO strap because the original gave up the ghost after the many years of use and I recently took it to a local jewellers to have it serviced but he wasn't interested in doing it, he did want to buy it though but I told him it's not for sale at any price, it'll be passed on to my grandson when I go because he loves it and appreciates it's history.

Whatsonthewrist, epic intro bro. I’ve heard of Vertex but r u sure it’s 40mm because it looks like 38 or 49? I think we have the same size wrist. Anyway it fits u great. I’d personally go with NATO because rubber is usually hard until u break it in. I was leaning toward a new seamaster until now. Thought vertex was always priced to high until u put it into context with the Speedy. But it still might be high. Great info and nicely presented as usual. U give us to many choices. Keep them coming.
@whatsonthewrist6 жыл бұрын
Hi, Stephen! Yes, it's 40mm and thank you! I know what you mean regarding stiff silicone straps, however Vertex's does not require a breaking in period. It's soft and comfy out of the box. I put it on the same quality level as Everest. Interesting conundrum you have with the Seamaster. Let me know what you decide. Thanks again! ✌️😱

I understand about the mix bag of people who like and not so much the referral thing. I believe Vertex was trying to keep the limited number of watches within the like-minded community. And you really lost me at the price, yipes, can't justify that price at all. I don't know, Rich. It's a real test of my imagination to rationalise 3.2k dollars for a hand wound field watch; no matter how lovely it is. Cost notwithstanding, Vertex's referral policy offends my egalitarian sensibilities -- I don't like that Patek and Ferrari do it; even less so when a rebooted watch company does the same. I don't doubt that Vertex's strategy was successful the first time around but i can't see how a referral policy can be sustainable in the long run. Personally, i wouldn't go near a Vertex lounge let alone spend more than 3k on a Vertex -- I'd be too embarassed if anyone knew i spent that kind of money on a 3 handed field watch. I don't know your friend, Don, so it may be unfair for me to write this; but i hope that he's not a tenth as pretentious as his watch company seems to be.
@whatsonthewrist6 жыл бұрын
