Kinda hard to tell the angles in this one, but it looked like that hole was dropping down at a fairly steep angle from the vertical winze? Also, the rubble at the bottom blocks the view, but since it is the bottom, I would guess that it is a small pocket of material they cleared out. Not really a drift or a winze, but just a small little alcove...

That's a pretty cool rig for the GoPro. I watched video a while back from someone doing the same thing, dropping a GoPro down a vertical shaft but he had only the one camera so to make sure he'd get it back out he hung it from a new nylon rope. Why he went ahead and posted to KZbin, I couldn't guess because all the viewers could see were the walls of the shaft flashing by at 3 rpm as that new rope unwound to release the tension. I felt kind of sorry for him since he went to that much trouble to only end up with 10 minutes of near total blur. Regarding that cut, I'd guess it was just a prospect. Thanks for sharing.

I like that the ladder looked mostly intact. I wonder if you could use it in a worst case scenario, if it would be insta-death.

Looks like a choked shaft to me, the hole on the side is just the shaft continuing downwards. Find a nice 100+kg rock to chuck down there, see if it clears the old timbers?
