This scene made me drag my 2 best friends to Muir Woods when we went together to a convention in San Francisco in 1998. One didn't want to go, and the other was "OK whatever," --but once there they were enchanted and said they were glad I insisted we take the bus trip. The fresh clean smell of the forest floor and the cool primordial silence made all of us agree that the "Garden of Eden" must have been something like this. . . . something of timeless peace, the light slanting through the tall cathedral stillness was unforgettable.

"Here I was born... and there I died. It was only a moment for you... you took no notice..." When you discover the truth of that line in your own life... you realize how fragile and beautiful waking up in the morning is.

Sometimes you think maybe it's a curse knowing that you are born and have to think about this stuff. As far back as when I was 3 I was really upset about life and whether I was real, or someone's dream, and I was so new on the planet I might just blip out of existence altogether at any moment! (Hemingway used to worry about that too, and he committed suicide at 62 just like his dad)

close to home here in Aptos. Hitch loved this the SF Bay Area, apparently had a house in Santa Cruz somewhere. he also loved Sonoma Co. and used that area in several of his films (the Birds...Beyond a Shadow of a Doubt). Vertigo is pone of my favorite films of all time.

MY BROTHER AND I, WERE JUST BABIES WHEN THIS MOVIE WAS CREATED. TURNED OUT LATER IN LIFE TO BE FAVORITES FOR SURE ALFRED HITCHCOCK WAS THE MAN. EVERYTHING ON THE SCREEN WAS STILL BLACK AND WHITE. MY LOVING MOTHER WAS STILL TALKING AND PARTYING WITH HER SISTERS THEN, NOTHING BUT GOOD FAMILY EVENTS, A BLESSED CLOSENESS!

IMDB is wrong. This was definitely shot at Muir Woods, that Tree Cross-Section is still there, the one at Big Basin is situated differently next to the lodge, and the grove of trees is different. I have spent a lot of time at both parks. Muir Woods is easy to access and Big Basin isn't, it has a tiny, narrow road that the 1950's film trucks would have had difficulty navigating.

+ZapPictures That's pretty categorical :) Well I won't argue as I wasn't there, but I wouldn't be surprised if they used different locations and even some studio sets.

From Wikipedia on shooting locations for the film: What purports to be Muir Woods National Monument in the film is in fact Big Basin Redwoods State Park; however, the cutaway of the redwood tree showing its age was copied from one that can still be found at Muir Woods. So there you go. That’s Hollywood for you. Using one location with a set prop from another. Guess the set decorator liked the Muir Woods cutaway better but the cinematographer liked shooting in Big Basin better. That makes perfect sense to me based on what I’ve learned about film history. Hope this clears things up.

Yes, Nuff Ced is right, the filming location was Big Basin Redwoods. State Park, check on IMD.

Right. "The actual filming location was Big Basin Redwoods State Park, 21600 Big Basin Way - Route 236 - at Boulder Creek, off Pacific Coast Highway 1 south of San Francisco toward Santa Cruz."

To be honest, it's all about the beauty of the woman; youth & beauty. She is 25 here, he is fifty. Men just want to stare at us, stare & stare. Now that she's old they don't stare so much. We are put out to pasture by age 35-40, but men go on as if they were ageless. Look at Pal Joey. Rita was 39 - Frank Sinatra was 44 - Kim was 24. But they act like he can be 44 & have both these women, it's normal. In the movie they act like Rita Hayworth is 'old' or 'over the hill' yet she is gorgeous & a marvelous dancer/actress. But the men can be in their sixties & still considered viable. This is Patriarchy. But hold on, Matriarchy is coming. It will all be the opposite way.
@Kareena1988 Жыл бұрын
Patriarchy will never go away. Its a mans world. In every field men can explore their fantasies of power, destruction, creativity. They use women to illustrate this and suit their ego. A man is not able to love. He desires multiple to endless numbers of women whereas the beauty of a woman goes away. Not only physically but with every year above 25 and tragic experiences with men, there is less and less goodness to find for a woman in this world.

I agree with everything up until the part about matriarchy coming and things being the opposite way. But for sure women have been oppressed for centuries, and men are overall extremely toxic and emotionally stunted. Personally I hope we all get to overcome our traumas and break the cycles of intergenerational oppression, so that we may all live well together - instead of believing in systems that one is better than the other.
