One of the most beautiful concertos ever in music.

Gorgeous. But I am old, and no-one can surpass Jacqueline du Pré (in my mind, that is!). Thank you for this beautiful performance.

And also du pre recordings are old so they sound kinda bad in comparison to some newer recordings

@@sahandkheirkhah3036 : Yes, you’re right. Luckily some have been remastered, and are quite wonderful. Also, when I hear them I can see her in my mind’s eye as she was at concerts almost 50 years ago. Saw her many times; she was radiant even while absorbed in the music.

If you refer to her performance of the Elgar concerto I might agree,,,,but this is the Dvorak concerto and I would disagree. Du Pre was superb in all music, the Elgar was her concerto,,,,maybe. Watch Gautier Capucon,,,or find the concert this extract was taken from which was the Finals of the Tchaikovsky competition. Both are a delight to watch and listen. Stunning performances. For me Pierre Fournier was the “Grand Prix du Disque” recording (same era as du Pre) awarded by the French and today we have many best performances. This performance I will check out as it is from St Petersburg,,,,sounds promising.

my understanding of pianissimo (PP) is that you could hear people whisper, pianississimo (PPP) means you can hear a needle drop. am I wrong? so often in scores it is written PP or PPP yet, to me at least, it is often played in piano (P) or mezzoforte (mf). 0:12 is supposed to be P, at 0:20 diminuendo into PP 0:23 ... yet everything is kinda mezzoforte?

Dynamics are relative so they rlly only matter in context
@LeRainbow2 жыл бұрын
@@ihH6053 Dynamics are relative but the relation stays. If they play what should be piano at what I perceive to be mezzoforte and then continue with the same volume and intonation into pianissimo it's still weird. Nitpicking at the highest level, just something I observe quite frequently.
@tabby71892 жыл бұрын
@@LeRainbow I'd say that first of all the interpreter had a different definition of piano than yours. Why? Being heard over the orchestra live was probably a significant part of it. External definitions of p or pp or ppp not dictating the meaning to the music was probably an even bigger part. The only part of what you wrote which I find incontestable is that pp should be softer than p should be softer than f, but piano doesn't just mean lower dB level, let alone a particular dB range. More important is how the emotion changes as the dynamic markings change.
@aralclara78762 жыл бұрын
It’s completely different for concertos. It is imperative to be heard over the orchestra and this is exactly what a “concerto pianissimo” is.

I don't know man, this is actually pretty kitsch compared to all the music there is... but nice nevertheless :) I always like discovering new pieces through these shorts it's nice. I'd say one of the best passages in music is the climax in Liebestod from Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde", or any climax passage in Brahms piano concerti.

In fact this is not the most beautiful part of the song, the most beautiful passage of the song is in the ninth symphony of beethoven, in the most famous video of this song on KZbin it is in the minute 53:00 at 54:36 "Double fugue based on the Joy Theme and Variation VII.".

How is that "One of the most beautiful passages in music"? Sure, it's difficult to play, but it's just broken chord, and not particularly interesting ones.
