I think the only real issue is chris’ voice with the accent isnt too strong, so it really just is chris’ voice, other wise I genuinely am looking forward to it. If theres one thing Illumination is showing they’re really amazing at is the visuals. And the “Do you yield” sequence literally made my jaw drop.

I think this is how you do a teaser trailer, not show much, but just enough to get you interested. Other Illumination trailers usually spoil most of the film. The entire trailer felt very un-Illumination. Like: -Decent humor that doesn't overstay it's welcome -no fart jokes -no pop music -actual Mario music

It really doesn't look all that bad. I think Nintendo just took the handle off Illumination and pushed it far away from Illumination's usual shit, at least judging by the fact that they delayed it. Bowser sounds great, Kamek doesn't sound half bad, Toad is actually a very fitting voice despite usually being a shrill raspy infant, and Chris Pratt Mario actually kinda fits as a Lou Albano type Mario from what we hear. And, of course, Charlie Day was born for Luigi, so it's a given that he's perfect from what we hear.

i think the reason that mario's voice irks me the wrong way is because it isnt like the "new york mario" voices. it's just "chris pratt but kinda new york-ish." compared to everyone else that we've heard, chris just doesn't sound like he's putting in the effort to BE mario. it just sounds like chris pratt with a weird accent.

Most likely his origin is gonna be starting from Donkey Kong arcade where after dealing with DK on his construction job and possibly the sewers from the Mario Bros arcade with Luigi, he finds a pipe which transports him into Mushroom Kingdom (and I guess Luigi follows after trying to find him which is probably why they appear seperately), that's a way better idea for a starting point in a Mario movie than being some plumber in real world Brooklyn honestly lol

Bowsers voice isnt as deep as id like it to be, but its still way better than what was in sunshine, and jack black himself is already a great VA. As for Mario, it's not Italian :( But it is Brooklyn :) At least I think, it's hard to tell from the barely two sentences he speaks in the trailer

They are letting Rosalina be a villain with Ubisoft. There was a debunk recently that no, Miyamoto isn't that controlling. He wasn't behind Paper Mario, nor the later Mario games. His one thing was "make the gameplay good so that the story doesn't need to carry the game". He never said "no story". We also know Intelligent Sys. choices on Paper Mario... were entirely their choice, especially considering Ubisoft is able to go ham with the Mario characters in many unique ways. No doubt they were holding the strings for the movie, but Miyamoto does know a movie requires a good story. (Heck, when Mario Galaxy 1 released, he said Rosalina's story was so good he wanted to write it as an actual storybook.)

I’m very mixed about Chris Pratt Mario. On one hand, I get the direction. Mario isn’t a gruff Italian in the games like he was in the Super Show, he’s got a much more cheery personality. On the other hand, Pratt really doesn’t do anything to make his voice sound even slightly like Martinet.

The amount of people genuinely impressed that this feels like a competent and exciting trailer is shocking. The only complaint I have heard is about Chris and Charles. Thay whole debacle still sucks but for what it is, it is quite frankly very good. There were jokes but they weren't as low brow as the usual shlock trailer lame slapstick or dirty joke. The only reason people are hesitant to like this is because this is Illumination. The only other animation studio that has left as bad of a taste within the last decade was Lionsgate. People are hesitant to like ir probably because the trailer will look fantastic or at most passable but the movie will be shit (like Suicide Squad). Quite frankly, I think the trailer was fantastic. I was thoroughly shocked and amazed with most things I saw. I am in the minority that doesn’t dislike Chris Pratt's voice for Mario (but Charles is the GOAT). It looked phenomenal. Jack Black and Keegan Michael Key did fantastic at their roles. What little I heard of Charlie Day, I thought to myself "Yup, that's Luigi". I really hope for the sake of all involved that this movie is an 8 out of 10 or higher. It isn't impossible to make a passable or good video game movie. But I won't be holding my hopes to high. With all this being said, I cannot wait for the Mario Sweep and for this movie to make a marillion dollars. I'm personally excited for the part where Mario says "It's Mario Time" and proceeds to do the Mario.

I'll spoil the plot then: Browser wants to collect all stars from all kingdoms to somehow become their ruler. And Mario says "what is this place?" at one point, ergo he doesn't even know the Mushroom Kingdom, which leads me to believe that he was sucked into the video game world through a portal from the real world. Which means Mario is actually a real person and we'll probably see him as Chris Pratt at the end, just like Ryan Reynolds at the end of Detective Pikachu. He is then supposed to go home again, but then decides to stay in the Mushroom Kingdom and protect it.

I had no idea Brian Tyler is working in the soundtrack. That guy is the master of generic soundtracks. His music makes the MCU music feel like Lord of the Rings'. At least Koji Kondo will keep him in check.

You do know he worked on MCU soundtracks right? He did Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and part of the Avengers: Age of Ultron soundtrack with Danny Elfman.
