You can use regular masking tape or you can use the Green Frog tape. I have found the Green Frog tape works amazing.

Hello John, I really like your abstract paintings. However, I always have the problem that the paint runs under the adhesive tape. Do you use special tape or do you have a trick to keep the transitions clean and straight? I would be very happy about an answer.

Two methods I employ. Get that Gorilla tape, which sticks better than standard painters tape. 2. Don't put a white edge on it. Paint right to the very edge of the canvas, and a little over, then come back and paint the side or the edge a dark color, or white once you are finished and the surface is dry. You'll notice John doesn't get the really wet paint at the tape, when he is putting the background color on, by the time he works the paint to the tape, it's very dry, not very wet. I frequently just paint whatever the background color on the sides as well. I find it gives the painting a finished look, but some artists like to paint that edge a dark color like black or what-have you to give the painting that contrast. Good luck!

I am going through the online training materials, but I wanted to try the 'Fragments' abstract using rags and masking tape. I used a substrate of Aluminum Composite Panel, and the top coat is gloss varnish. John Beckley, thank you for the inspiration!

This painting is so stunningly Earth in every sense to me. The way She moves, the life created and destroyed, the sustenance of water, the heat of flames, the organic feel of the emerging of ice and fire creating that cataclysmic explosion of life and death. The texture of coals mixed with the cool smoothness of water. This stirs the soul and moves my mind.

Agréable et simple 🤩.... vous vous demandez si vous devez attendre que chaque couche sèche avant de mettre du ruban adhésif pour la couche suivante ??? dans ce cas, cela prend quelques jours ou je me trompe .... merci pour la réponse ....
