I'm a black or white, follow the rules kinda girl (true Virgo), so thank you soooo much for giving us permission to get creative whilst sewing down bindings. These bindings will look so beautiful next to your hexi flowers with hand embroidered centers! 💕🌞🌵😷

OMG thanks so much , so much help . I'm embarrassed to say I have 2 queen size quilts that were done 2 years ago . I've done the binding so many times it's frustrating. I'm going to try your method for sewing on binding and keep my fingers and toes crossed that it works . Hopefully I get it done and give the quilts away as our weather gets colder . Thank u , thank u , really learned lot today .

I find your videos very soothing...your voice, the stitching and the music calms my soul....thank you...❤ Great design boards, too...I persevered with foam core and used heat and bond to glue the binding on....love your stiched ones! Andrea...not Howard..he plays golf!🙄

Wonderful demonstration Emma. I have made the glue gun version and burned my fingers quite often. Your version is a lot safer. Thank you for sharing . I will try the softer version. 🥰

I'm sure your workshop will be wonderful, Emma. I wish I lived nearer 😍 These design boards are lovely. I have a scrap piece of foam board in the house... I might make myself one. Thanks for the warning about not trying to sew on the foam board - I'll try some of my glues👍 I love that herringbone stitch and the inclusion of the wee cross stitches to liven up the running stitch - thanks for those tips, Emma❤

I always use Thermolan instead of batting. It holds the fabric just as well but is far more stable. I love your idea with the flex foam. I think it's perfect for retreats and such.

You could also cut the boards a bit smaller than the design quilt and sort of frame it with the soft stuffing in the binding area.

RsIsland Crafts - Robin has a video using Heat & Bond Ultra Hold for the binding, no hot glue or sewing in case you want to check out her method too. I think the video was done about two years ago and the title says something like “No Hot Glue design boards”. Just another idea and it looks to be definitely better than using hot glue (burned fingers)!!

Did you use a denim needle whilst sewing the foam core? Or a regular needle? 💕🌞🌵😷
@emmajonesvintagesewingbox2 ай бұрын
It was a universal size 100 but I just wouldn’t recommend sewing through it at all, with any needle, it does create some dust particles and that can’t be good for your machine either

I am making a hexie quilt and have a question. Should wash the hexie before sewing together or wash after they are sewn together, so far all is sewn by hand and I just love it
@emmajonesvintagesewingbox2 ай бұрын
I never pre wash fabric but that’s just my personal choice. I would wash it when it needed it afterwards

I appreciate you making the design boards for your students to use in class, but be prepared for students to ask you, if you sell these. Especially if I didn't get my project done, I'd want one to take my project home. If you want to sell these, choose a lower price, if you'd rather not, choose a high price, to discourage their purchases. But by making them available you seem more helpful to their journey, than by saying no. 💕🌞🌵
