VERY EASY crochet mini basket tutorial - striped storage pots

This step by step tutorial will show you how to crochet easy mini storage baskets / pots / containers. This pattern is suitable for beginners.
For my pots I used a 2.5mm crochet hook and Drops Paris yarn. I would recommend using a cotton yarn of aran weight for your mini baskets.

when I got to the top, I crocheted along the outside stitch only, two loop through stitches, then three chains, then two loop through, and so on. Gave a ruffled appearance to the top edge. Just for fun. It would be cute to sew a bead in between each "ruffle", also.

I note that the tutor is english but is using american crochet terminology. The term 'single crochet' does not exist in UK patterns - the stitch is referred to as 'double crochet'. I thought I had better mention this to avoid confusion when reading patterns in the future.

What is "aran" weight on cotton yarn. Would it be called something else in the U.S.? I bought two different ones....One is Aunt Lydia's crochet thread size 3 and very fine. The other is Peaches & Creme net weight 2.5. They are both cotton. Any assistance would be appreciated. I watched many videos of crocheting in the round and YOURS was by far the best and easiest to follow. Thank you and look forward to hearing back. :)

Hi +Barbara Hellebrand , I am not sure what it would be called but you would usually use a 4mm crochet hook with aran yarn. I recommended using this weight yarn and a 2.5mm hook to make the baskets thicker and more sturdy. I would recommend using the thicker of the yarns that you bought with a 2.5mm hook. I don't understand how the rounds of singles become a wall for the basket. Love the pattern I know I am missing something. To me it would be just a flat round of singles .

Yvonne Weast hi! If you notice for the flat bottom of the bowl, you are increasing by crocheting two stitches into each of the the stitches from the the previous round which allows it to remain flat as the diameter of the circle increases. When you only crochet one stitch in each of the previous round stitches it will start curving upwards because you are not increasing your number of stitches, but the diameter is increasing, so it pulls the circle into a bowl shape. I hope I explained that in an understandable way(?) 😳😄 p.s. you can also decrease your number of stitches in last round to pull the rim in a little tighter.
