My daughter's 2007 Canyons tailgate latch fell to pieces. It fell to me,her mother, to try to fix it. I also found the correct latch on Amazon (19.95). With this video, I was able to easily replace the broken latch! Kudos to you, your instructions are so easy and clear to follow!

Interestingly mine 2007 CANYON JUST BROKE, did you use 10 SOCKET WRENCHES, & whose Latch ( I see Amazon @$14-19.95 erc).... ?? Actually we just downsized & moved to Helena Valley,MT next to Daughters..and I only have CrAfts an INCH Sockets , & no metric Wrenches, thiugh small area inside tailgate, to be Turning in wrench(** 7/16 inch slips already),etc

It wasn't working for me. I finally figured out that you have to install the short arm on the lock barrel when it's in an unlocked position. I didn't even think about the latch being locked or not, since I had to access it from inside the panel anyways. So, simple thing to add that could help people with this. I enjoyed your video, very succinct.

LOOKING at project.....I TOOK tailgate plate off, & surveying, looking at comments to,order Latch, ***interestingly I have no METRIC SOCKETS LEFT , DKWNSIZINGN TO EAST HELENA MT, and the inch closet to 10 mm slips already ( I sprayed good with WD-40, etc. ).....*** Anyways, just starting this next.......

I'm not sure but I was able to unscrew my bed liner fairly easily.

I'm having a problem with my 2006 Colorado tailgate lock. Sometimes the key doesn't want to turn to unlock, others times it unlocks perfect, and just today it wouldn't turn all the way to unlock. I had to bang on the tailgate and jiggle the key for it to finally unlock. Gonna have to take my panel off to see what is going on. I'm hoping it will just need some WD40.

@Joan S the plate that is on the inside of the tailgate. If its bent inward. Remove the plate and flatten it back out level. Then use WD40 and lubricate the hell out of the locking mechanism and inside the keyhole the latches. Lube the hell out of it. The plate was bent down enough to cause the mechanism to catch and not turn.
