VERY EASY How to wire a 12v Switch panel / board in a campervan conversion

I haven't got a clue when it comes to electrics. My head just doesn't work in this way. I've watched so many basic beginner videos and couldn't figure out what I was meant to be doing with the earth. Nobody mentions it at all and you highlighted it and explained it brilliantly, so thank you. I can finally crack on 🙏

I'm just on the Screwfix site and there are various terminals. For example 16A, 30A, 6A, 3A, and 60A. I'm just wiring up 5 12V LED lights. Do you have any recommendations for which I should use?

​@@StudioInnatetake the wattage of each light, let's assume 30 watts. You take the watts, divided by the volt, in this case 12v, that's 2.5 amps. So you now know to use the 3amp fuse connection for this light. Use the correct amperage connection for the amount of watts each item uses.

Thanks dude. I’ve purchased this panel. I was hoping it was only going to need one wire for peptide from battery. Someone said I needed to run multiple wires from the panel to the battery which doesn’t make sense lol

I’ve got a solar control unit, do I run the leisure batteries to that. Then from the solar control unit to the switch board that you have there? Also does the solar control unit act as a fuse board in this scenario?

Hi mate thanks for the helpful videos, I'm lost when it comes to the electrical side of things. I have a lithium set up, 300amp battery with 550 watts solar so bags of power .my question is I have a 12 v Chinese diesel heater and need to connect it up my fuse board and switch board are full ,running lights,fridge and water pump .any advice would be greatly appreciated. Hello mate 👍🏼 Maybe upgrade your fuseboard to a 6 or 12 way fuseboard, I'd personally go for more as it gives you more outlets in the future if needed 👍🏼

Hi mate quick question. Am about to do this did you run the cable to your 12v blade fuse holder or did you go straight to batterys also what fuse is in for the panel as am guessing you would have ran it to one of your pos points on the blade and then neg buz bar at the top of it so would need to put a fuse in is it a 30amp

Never a stupid question mate. So 1 feed from the 12v fuse board to the switch board, then everything come out of the switch board 👍🏼

Think he went through the fuse board just because he had one in his setup and has plans to use the fuse board for other items. Going through the fuse board to the switch panel is essentially an extra bit of safety really ( I think) 😅

Hi, not really as there is inline fuses on every output of the switchboard, I do it for extra safety and spare feeds in needed 👍🏼

Thanks for the explanation, nice simple. Although, sorry but everytime you said earth grated on me, and probably anyone thats in or been in the electrical industry. It's a neutral on DC. Domestic AC current normally as three wire live, neutral and earth path.

Hi mate. I'm going to use a ecoflow power pack instead of a leisure battery, but i want a switch block on the wall so all i need is to connect the power pack to the switch block whenever i take it in and out of the van and use elsewhere. I'm only going to use the switch block for 12v stuff like lights. I will be using a 4 gang switch block like the one in the video which has it's own fuses in the red blocks at the back...as per your video. Q?...do I really need a separate fuse board for this? Areen't the fuses in the back of the switchblock enough?

Hi mate, lots of people don't use a main fuse board as there's inline fuses already in the panel. I personally do because it gives me more feeds if needed, I run my heater directly from it etc 👍🏼

@@kieranfinch3928 That's how I do it mate 👍🏼 I usually run a 50a breaker between the leisure battery and fuse box. Make sure your fuse box is earthed clean, take paint back to bare metal if earthing on bodywork.
