Not knocking it, but you didn't cut the square tube. Doesn't that affect the angle now, and height. Should have cut an inch off the tubing too, that way they're still welded where they were gonna be welded. That's just what I think, I could be wrong tho.
@ColdWarVet6072 күн бұрын
You're assuming thats not calculated in the 1st place or either the center support bar or the bars at 45. This channel is about joining metal, not dimensions for projects....jusy say'in

@ColdWarVet607 . You're correct, It was an assumption.

I concur with your point, the new dimensions including the angle are out of pre set specifications
@RobertTaylor-vd2mwКүн бұрын
lol , height is same , angle is same , why would it alter , is cut parelell
@KenIbenduovaКүн бұрын
@@RobertTaylor-vd2mw . If you notice, when he first puts the pieces on each side of the tubing, they would have connected below the top of tubing. Now they're connecting at the top of tubing, since he notched them. If he had taken off what he notched on the two pieces, he would have them where he was originally had them. I'm other words, the top of metal was hitting at top edge of tubing, now it's at the center of the top of tubing. Different height, it would only be a different angle if the other end of metal is connecting to something, if it's not the angle doesn't change just the height.

I usually hate watch these videos. Largely because he tries to inappropriatelapply apply carpentry principals to metal working. However, I like the way this end product looks better. I fully understand it's not stronger and it'll take 4 times longer to make but, I have to give it to him this time, it looks better.
@rientsdijkstra42662 күн бұрын
As somebody else said: this technique changes the basic design of the thing(height, width), so you have to account for that and make an integrate calculation for the whole thing! (and be sure that the client is OK with it)

Would have been far quicker and easier to knotch the upright, imagine the extra time and material it would take if you were doing a large production run doing it that way.

I think most of the methods used on this channel are for aesthetics and not for structures or production. Like I can't come up with any use cases for... whatever this Y-joint is, outside of things that go in your back yard or garage. If for example I'd want to make a small tin roof over the trash bins outside I'd go for something that looks nice, like this, instead of something optimized for mass production. But then again, it would probably look even better made out of wood, so i dunno 😆

I worked as a mechanical designer for many years. and I find these videos increadably annoying. I count the amount of cuts he makes... too many. He has the advantage of using short Hollow structural steel and not ones that are. 20 feet long. Labour cost too high. perhaps for industrial applications but not for consumer goods. using an Iron worker would be faster. (google iron worker). even if one wishes to use this design why not use. templates. no need to measure. LOL he needs to mark the part of the HSS to be though'n anything. oooo. They sell plastic caps that go on the end of HSS that cost 10 cents. one hit with a hammer and it's installed. using a spot weld to hold the 2 pieces in place is stupid. the using a wire brush after is dumb WTF moment.
