That thumbnail!! Gulp... let's be honest for many of us it was the thumbnails that originally attracted us to the channel... but what keeps us here, and I subscribed at under 10k, is the sheer fun and enthusiasm you both bring, especially Matt's comments and random nonsense! The fact you kept viewing figures so high during the refit without a bikini in sight proves that.

Matt, I admire your refusal to get an anchor winless… i’ve been sailing for over 30 years and have also refused or simply have not felt the need for one… However, if I may suggest for your own comfort… You don’t have to necessarily use a full chain rode, you can shorten your chain to 10 feet and even less …. And you can also use a smaller chain size which will be much lighter to haul-up and a lot easier on your hands and your back… another option is to use your heavy chain rode only in rocky or rather iffy anchorages and use your lighter rode the rest of the time which would probably be more than 90% of the time… LIVE SLOW AND SAIL FAST ! I generally concur with your attitude towards windlasses acted like you for twenty years. But then came this morning after a stormy night when my SQR anchor had buried itself half a meter into the clay bottom (after lifting it the whole shaft and a little bit of chain were still covered with clay) and I had to work literally for hours, I was underway single handed, to get the anchor up, completely exhausted. Very late I got the idea of attaching a rope around the chain and leading it back to a sheet winch and that worked out great. But after that event I purchased a used manual windless that really serves me well. Think about it.

It was great to hear about your decision to do the You Tube thing. Back in Key West you tried a few things, like the comedy skits and they were entertaining but not a solid long-term format. I assume you just started shooting videos and then put them together. Whatever it was, the format you have now just works. Its real, honest and entertaining. I always makes me nervous watching you two ride on the stand up scooter together. My wife and I did the same thing for a couple years as it was a great compact solution to keep on the boat. Then one night in Key West while going walking speed, we hit a rough spot in the road and we were on the ground before we knew it. No helmets. My wife's eyebrow was gone, 20 stitches , I had a big bump on the head. Sold the scooter immediately. It seems safe at slow speeds but from a standing position it is almost impossible to catch yourself before you hit the ground. We were very lucky that it was not worse. The emergency room doc did a great job and her eyebrow grew back beautifully.

Matt and Kristen. Great video, thanks for sharing your lives. One nit-pick that bothers me concerning safety. A captain on another sailing channel also threw caution to the wind as the two of you often do. He also had an electric bike and never wore a helmet. On one of his stopovers, he was scooting down a street and hit a road rut and went down face-first into the road. In your vid today, you were cruising down the road and ran over an object that jolted your bike. Sadly, neither of you was wearing a helmet and it could have ended in tragedy. The fellow that fell is still on the mend after several months and does not have full use of his hands. He may well have had a concussion. In any event, you may want to be a bit more cautious and at least wear helmets. Stay safe, not sorry.
