Odds are pretty good that that powder went bad, perhaps not enough to be obvious. If the pulled bullets were wet tumbled they would likely clean up just fine. You could load some salvaged powder and bullets in fresh cases to see if they work...

powder reminds me of that old czech 8mm all clumpy with green crap lol

Looks like another case of dissimilar metals causing galvanic corrosion. Usually the worst where the metal jacketed bullet, the brass shell and the powder are all in contact. It's an electrochemical process where the softer metal usually flows towards the harder. In fact those bullets may now be brass coated from the transfer of metal. The powder acts as an electrolyte, which aids in the process : ).

that could be :)

>Good thought, a real possibility with Galvanic Corrosion 'eating' away at the ammo [According to the Internet, the old primers are corrosive too... ... +Humidity accelerates the corrosion... The ammunition was possibly stored on the Humid side of the Humidity Line for the North American Continent. ... Down here, the Yanker Military uses the low humidity areas of Nevada and Arizona as primary Military storage Areas. ... &Of course the Yanker Military, shows the Great GunGeek videos of >his massive ammo storage facility in humid Nova Scotia as part of the US Military Training Films.

The Great GunGeek, and "years and years ago" = Ha Ha Ha! ... The >Young and very Wise GunGeek still looks like a teenager. ... He should move to Florida, USA and become a Yanker selling a youth Elixir, and calling it the Ponce de Leon Quick Gurgle. ="Feel and Look younger overnight!" ... Instead of dressing for the cold of the Frigid North, GunGeek would be basking in the warm sun of Florida. [They sell exquisite Brunswick canned sardines in Miami FL, too.] ... But, as we all know, the Great GunGeek is also known as the Honest Man from the Frigid Far North. = His youthfulness is the result of eating tinned fish from Dollarama.

Hey Scott, been a while because my KZbin channel went south on me,, So I resubscribed. anyway, Ya, The U.S. made millions of rounds during the first world war of 30-06. In the way of corrosion electrolysis is the cause, those bullets have Cupronickel jackets and are really bad on your rifling as well because the cupronickel imbeds just like copper fouls in your barrel , I would keep them as just conversation pieces. I have some of that 30-06 that is stamped "18" as well and it is in the same condition as yours. off subject, you and 314299 should do another live chat, If you do one again wear the Sombrero, hehehe.. Peace out - Dave
