That face Brian is showing, is NOT a scowl! Brian is DEEP in concentration. A KILLER keyboardist, next to a KILLER keyboardist, and pick'em. Who is better, who cares. Who wins, every single listener! Only other famous "competition" Brian and Sir Paul. Paul did Rubber Soul, and hit it out of the park. Inspired Brian to do Pet Sounds. Which pushed Paul to do Sgt. Pepper. Paul had a LOT of others to help, including 2 guys named George. Brian had his brothers, and Alan. Had to carry his BRAIN DEAD cousin along, too. It is a wonder Brian is still around. steve

@EltonBeatles
@EltonBeatles 5 жыл бұрын
@@patriciarussell6683When you look at a C major chord, the triad consists of the root note (C), the third note (E) and the fifth note (G). Normally a composer will play chords with the root note in the bass. So, when playing a C major or minor chord, the C is also used as the bass note. Brian however used those thirds and fifths to create different chords. For example, after the intro, God Only Knows starts of in D, but the bass note is A (fifth note). I believe he did it quite often when writing a song. Surf's Up is another song that springs to mind when it comes to using this trick. I know Elton used it on the intro of Someone Saved My Life Tonight. I'm far from an expert, but maybe it helps you to put Eltons story in context ;)

@ladycarmillasanguina
@ladycarmillasanguina 2 жыл бұрын
@@corinneyaworski308 No. For some reason there is this persistent belief that Brian Wilson does not write lyrics. The truth is more complicated. He absolutely does write lyrics - and he’s a fine, if quirky, lyricist - and there are many songs that are credited only to him. He does prefer to work with a co-writer, however, someone who can help articulate his lyrical ideas. Gary Usher who co-wrote several songs with him in 1962 and again in 1986 has said that Brian Wilson is a being of complete emotion; he gets so carried away by emotion that he has trouble articulating. Other writers have mentioned that Brian needs a co-writer mainly because he needs assurance that his idea is good before he goes on. There is no magic formula to writing a song and it’s no difference with Brian Wilson than anyone else. Some of his contributions to songs ( a few songs written with Andy Paley, for example) have been mainly lyrical, though generally speaking, it works the other way around with him. Tony Asher has said that the words he wrote were his (i.e., Tony Asher’s); but the ideas were culled from conversations he had had with Wilson. Similarly, Van Dyke Parks wrote all or almost all of the words of SMiLE; but he was hired by Brian to write about themes that resonated with him: American history, the pioneer movement, mass immigration from Europe and the genocide of the American Indian. With many of his songs co-written with Mike Love, Brian would often write the music for the song and the words of the chorus, maybe one line of verse and Mike would finish the words of the verses. (“California Girls”, for example was written this way.) On “I Get Around”, another famous Wilson/Love hit, Brian wrote the words to the chorus and the words to the second verse; Love wrote the first verse and the opening “round”, which Brian then embellished with harmony. Still at other times songwriters have been given a song with a complete set of lyrics and merely edited them, keeping his ideas mosty intact (Help Me Rhonda); or rewrote them completely ("Surf City", orignally called “Goodie Connie Won’t You Please Come Home). Collaborators like Scott Bennett, Andy Paley have also contributed much to the music as well. Here are some songs that he wrote both lyrics and music to: “Time To Get Alone” “Til I Die:” “Wind Chimes” “I’ll Be He’s Nice” “Still I Dream Of It” “Love and Mercy” (Eugene Landy may have contributed a line to this one) And more recently: Oxygen to the Brain

To be growing up in the 60's and 70's was a musical experience only witnessed at the time of Mozart or Bach. Perhaps the birth of Jazz and Coltrane. There are a few time when music takes a giant leap. Always felt blessed to live trough one of those giant leap. Seeing Brian and Elton on stage makes me wonder how Mozart, Bach and Coltrane would have viewed these times. Anyhow. Thanks Brian. Thanks Elton.

These were my two favorite people in the world when I was a kid. This happened when I was in highschool and my mind melted - I thought it was the greatest thing I'd ever seen... it's still way up there for me. Can't get over how great they sound together.

interesting isnt it, as a young man i rebelled against all traditional forms of music but looking back technically people like wilson took the scene a step further.

There's something so sweet and fresh and innocent sbout Brian, and you can hear it in his voice (even in old age!), certainly in his songs, too, and this one especially. Love you, Brian Wilson, and your musical genius and perseverance, and your masterpiece, "God Only Knows."

Like Brian Wilson and his fellow Beach Boys, I spent my early childhood years in Hawthorne, California (although for me, it was more than a decade after the heyday of the Beach Boys). Hearing their old songs always takes me back to those days in Hawthorne back in the mid-1970s.

Never seen Elton so humbled in a performance, at this moment he knew he had to play nice and sing behind someone elses difficult harmonies that demanded you leave your alpha ego at home
