I'm so thankful for this video! My dentist didn't show me how to do this either, instead gave me a vague instruction sheet. Today, I used my custom trays for the first time and thought I would cry, it hurt so bad! Thinking the edges of the new trays were sharp, I tried to tough it out. Less than 6 minutes in, I pulled them off and looked in the mirror. It was obvious my gums were angry. I wasn't too happy either. Prior experience using the preloaded trays with no issues, this was a very different experience. It was unpleasant but the minimal amount of time they were on, there's a difference! Whiter but uncomfortable guns! Because of your informative video, I know what mistakes I made and will be trying again in a couple of days. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. Whitening not being something I do, I didn't know what questions to ask, I had that "instruction" sheet... Ha! Seriously, dental offices who offer this at home application should be much more proactive about instructions and most especially informing their patients that bleach can cause not only gum irritation but BURNING. Thank you again! I hope my trays last as long as yours have, excellent tips for cleaning and care!

These are the Chinese ones that have more way more bleach than is allowed lol, but damn, do they do a hell of a job in a short amount of time, but they WILL burn your gums lol. Did you do the enamel treatment afterwards? My teeth were killing me for days afterwards... But they were 5-6 shades brighter, had them on for 4 hours

Thank you! That was very clear and concise, and it answered all my many questions 🙏🏽 My “polyday” gel is from “2018-01”. Yes, I got it four years ago, and just procrastinated! My teeth have never been such a shade of yellow, and I’m really eager to whiten up! I don’t drink coffee, and barely any wine or tea… it’s just time. Just tried the first tube today. It comes out as a gel, not as a liquid. I have kept it in the fridge, I am hopeful that it will still work to some degree. The lower tray fits fine, the upper one, not as great. The upper one also causes me to have it get a mouthful of saliva, as well, so I may have to get a re-fitting 😞 to be able to tolerate it. The tubes say “9.5% hydrogen peroxide gel”. The dental assistant said to use it for *20 minutes*, which is markedly different from the amount of time you’re recommending. I’m going to call them to check if I mis-heard, or if they have another reason for that amount of time. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge 🙂

How does this method compare to the in-office method with the blue light setting gel? I’m thinking the look of the teeth afterwards and maintenance required.
@VeryNiceSmileDental Жыл бұрын
Hi, studies show that the blue light doesn't do anything, the whitening effect is due to the strength of the whitening gel you use, and the length of time it's on the teeth.
@Anilu777 Жыл бұрын
@@VeryNiceSmileDentaloh! It seemed to ‘set’ the gel or something like that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Which method is more permanent (the whiteness stays longer)?
@VeryNiceSmileDental Жыл бұрын
Hi. With in office bleaching using a blue light, your teeth will dehydrate just from your mouth being open for the length of the appointment. The dehydration makes your teeth look whiter, but then they will appear to get darker again in a couple of days as your teeth rehydrate. Whitening from the gel will last longer since it actually whitens your teeth and doesn't dehydrate them. I hope that makes sense.

@@VeryNiceSmileDental yeah that’s exactly what i did. But eventhough i wipe it off there is still an amount of it that i can t controle. So now i m suffering from some soreness in my gums like for days ago. How would i treat it? Thanks a lot doctor.
@VeryNiceSmileDental Жыл бұрын
The soreness should go away in a few days if you stop bleaching. See your dentist and have them check the fit of your trays. Also you may need to use a weaker whitening gel.

My dentist gave me a vague directions which then led me to irritation my gums. What do I do now? It hurts to brush my teeth
@VeryNiceSmileDental5 ай бұрын
Give your dentist a call. In the meantime stop using the whitening for a few days to give your gums a chance to heal. You can probably resume whitening once your gums heal.

Hello doctor, is it common if my trays get filled up with saliva? Cause they are really uncomfortable for me; I feel that lots of product get lost because of this
@VeryNiceSmileDental10 ай бұрын
Hi, the trays should fit your teeth tightly. Have your dentist check them to make sure they still fit well.

My dentist told me the blobs need to be reeeeeally small because otherwise it would irritate the gums. So I was surprised to see how royally much you put on it. Should be good. Btw there is a one-millimeter gap between the tips of my front teeth and where they should press against the edge of the tray. Is that a problem?
@VeryNiceSmileDental6 ай бұрын
Hi, as long as the tooth is covered and the tray doesn't cover your gums on the cheek side you should be ok.

Hello, can I still use opalescence 15% if I’m on Invisalign treatment with attachments/buttons on my teeth? I am afraid that when it comes time to remove the attachments from my teeth, it will be yellow underneath.. Thank!
@VeryNiceSmileDental6 ай бұрын
Hi, the gel should be able to whiten the enamel underneath the buttons but it will depend on the size of them. The buttons themselves won't change color.

Can I use my retainers to do teeth whitening? Also I’m told my teeth whitening tubes expire after a month?
@VeryNiceSmileDental Жыл бұрын
Hi, I usually recommend getting custom whitening trays made in order to keep the gel away from your gums. Majority of the orthodontic retainers I've seen tend to cover the gums somewhat. As the gel expires, it may not work as well. It will still work as long as it doesn't separate.

Thank you. Does the gel penetrate the teeth and make the whole teeth white or only the front?
@VeryNiceSmileDental2 жыл бұрын
You're welcome. Yes the gel penetrates the teeth and makes the whole tooth white.

Love the video! Question: I noticed that I am salivating a lot, not sure if it is safe for me to swallow, right now my solution is to keep spitting in a cup. I am using the Philips Zoom 16%.
@VeryNiceSmileDental Жыл бұрын
Anytime you put something in your mouth, your mouth thinks it's food and will start salivating more. You can swallow your saliva safely. As long as your whitening trays fit your teeth well, you won't be swallowing much of the whitening gel.

What do I do if I put it on the bottom of the tray and the bottom of my teeth are slightly more bleached than the top
@VeryNiceSmileDental5 ай бұрын
Hi, if your bottom teeth look whiter, you may want to whiten just your top teeth a bit more. That's assuming you don't have any crowns or porcelain veneers, which won't whiten at all.

Is it a problem if saliva gets in the trays after u have put them on?
@VeryNiceSmileDental6 ай бұрын
Hi, it's normal for a little to get under the tray. The trays should fit well to keep the gel inside.

Hello doctor, just came across your video, thank you so much for the details. Im using 20% and used it for 7 and ahalf hour, and kinda feel sensitive. So, i might reduce down my time to only 3hrs.
@VeryNiceSmileDental2 жыл бұрын
Hi, that's too long a time. Ultradent recommends 2-4 hours for 20%. I'll send you a table of recommended wear times for different strengths of whitening gel.

I have the 22% Carbamide Peroxide and after I open it do i need to put it in the refrigerator or is room temperature okay? I am not sure if it will make a difference.

Apologies.🤦♂️ You explained it in the video. Thank you for the video..... Also, one last question, how long do these last if they are not refrigerated or after initially receiving them, if you know what I mean?
