I just picked up Miracle on 34th Street from the library, so excited to read it! I'm really enjoying this readathon and have read a few books for the prompts.

I have watched the old Miracle every year for the past 50 + years and it never gets old… Maureen O’Hara is so beautiful and Natalie Wood is precocious and delightful.., you will love it!

I have decided to pretty much read only Christmasy books this month and I’ve loved it. And I had about 5 different. On Christmas books come available through Libby so I postponed those until after Christmas. This has been a great reading month! I’m currently listening to A Christmas Carol narrated by Jim Dale and it’s so relaxing.

I’m also reading the Washington Irving stories on my Christmas podcast. I’ve enjoyed them but I know they might not be enjoyed by everyone. I need to read that Winter Fire book! I enjoy the deeper Bible studies too, and one of my issues with advent books is they can often be too light and easy to read for what I’m looking for.

My favorite MO34thSt is the old one with Natalie Wood. All I could find at my library is the picture book. I am glad you liked The Birds Christmas Carol, I was one who recommended it. 😊

I love Miracle and am reading it now. Interesting historical notes about Valentine Davies and the movie. My favorite version is the original, how I dislike how portions of the original movie was cut out overtime.

I have The birds' Christmas Carol. Mine WAS published in 1886. G.K Chesterton's bk. sounds great, want to get it. I also like a deep dive into the bible. Know exactly what you mean about some devotionals. .Chas. Spurgeon has some GREAT ones. He is my FAVORITE theologian. Thanks Mitzi🤗. I love Pippi too always have😊 Presently reading Christmas With The Queen and really liking it😊 Not what I expected at all. This month only reading bks. from MY Christmas collection (too big).

Spurgeon is the BEST! Now I'm intrigued by Christmas with the Queen!

the original movie with Maureen O'Hara and Natalie Wood is so good - but I love old black and white movies. The newer version with the little girl actress that played Matilda is very good too! I remember always catching the old black and white version on TV Thanksgiving Day. love the cover of that book too!

I love black and white movies, too! I'm sure I'll love the original. I'm going to try to watch it this weekend.

Such lovely and fun suggestions. I have only ever watched the original 1947 version of Miracle on 34th street but will give the updated version a try this year. I am currently reading the Night Before Christmas (a beautiful picture book edition) and listening to A Christmas Carol on audio

I also read The Birds Christmas Carol last week and really enjoyed it. But my favourite by KDW was The Romance of the Christmas Card as it was my pick for the Wedding prompt and I gave it 5 stars! I loved the courtroom scene in Miracle on 34th Street, have never seen any adaptation but now I want to! My next read will be The Gift of the Magi. 🎄

We - in Canada - have a postal strike on right now, which means I can't get books in from other libraries. However, I have been reading some seasonal books: The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Aunt Olga's Christmas Postcards, A Very Dickens Christmas, and some Dickens short stories. I would like to get my hands on Winter Fire. A book I"m reading for Advent is based on the book of Ruth, so the Scriptures used are a little different in that sense.
@mitzireadsandwrites12 күн бұрын
Oh, that sounds interesting! I like that the book is using the book of Ruth!

I read a Christmas story last year by Kate Douglas Wiggins - I think it was called The Christmas Card - that was really lovely. The G K Chesterton advent book sounds much better than the one I'm reading this year. 😂 I have been wanting to read the Very Russian Christmas book for a year or two now, but I haven't gotten to it yet!

I read Washington Irving's Christmas stories too! I agree that they felt more like essays than short stories. I didn't realize until I finished reading them that they're from his Sketches and the narrator Geoffrey Crayon is considered Irving's pseudonym... So I think the Christmas stories are Irving's own experiences with an English Christmas... I think I could be wrong.

I love Miracle on 34th Street I have seen three movie version and they are all great but the 1994 version is my favorite as it was the first one I watched. I have read A Christmas Carol, Two version of The Night Before Christmas, and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer (I have the Montgomery Wards version!). Currently reading Letters From Father Christmas by JRR Tolkien. 😀

I read the Miracle on 34th st book, cause I was curious since I didn't know there was a book regarding the movie. It is just like the black and white move, where Natalie Wood played Susan. That is my favorite of that movie. There were some scenes in the book that was not in the movie or the opposite. In the movie, Santa never moves out of the Maplewood home to live with a friend at the zoo. I was waiting for Santa to talk to a co-worker who said the store doctor was making him question himself and Santa was giving him a pep talk But that was not in the book.

I can't believe I don't remember the original! I'm going to watch it soon so I can compare the book, too.
@Readingindarknesss13 күн бұрын
I’ve seen both versions of miracle on 34 street and loved them! But I think this is a situation where I liked the movies more than the book! In the movies, you can wonder if he’s Santa. But in the book, you’re in his head while he’s scheming and it was sort of annoying and took away the magic.
