that's great info. With those empirical observations, you are quite the natural philosopher, squire. thanks.

Thx for the video. Great stuff! One question: what would happen if you lose 20 pounds? Would the stopping distance be shorter? When can we see that video? It couldn't be that hard. Just 12 eggs for breakfast instead off 24 !!! :-) :-) :-) All bad jokes aside, I really love your video's. Especially the ride alongs: soooo beautiful where you live !!!

Thank you! Those chickens rely on me. If I cut back on eggs, the farmer won't be able to buy chicken feed. I must do my duty and soldier on! ;-)

Brilliant. Thank you.

thank you for doing this. Did a test ride with the gts 300 today, coming from a bmw gs, the breaking did not convince me. I have an older gs modell with abs, I feel like I can stop from 35 (50kph) in 5-7m, the bike weighs nearly 600 pounds

I hear you. I guess the nice way to say it is that the ABS is very forgiving. It is very, very difficult to induce a skid, and seemingly impossible to endo. That said, the stopping distance could be shorter! ;)

Very interesting, thanks for taking the time. Initially I thought the brakes were rather ‘meh’ on my Vespa yet I think they improved a bit with time. Still, my motorbike had much more powerful braking. I agree with the control during your braking though, that appeared to be very solid. Good to know. I’ve practiced some emergency braking with my Vespa yet maybe not quite as aggressive as some of your stops, yet it felt very stable. Not much front dive, compared to a motorbike.

Braking power is linked to wheel size, though clearly there are other variables. You've reminded me of my Honda Cub which rose, not dived, under braking, and another bike with leading link forks.

Any brake fade with sequential stops?

Can't say that I noticed much, if any. Certainly nothing to be concerned about.

I totalled my new 300 GTS in an intersection when a driver failed to see me coming at 50 mph. The insurance got me a new bike and I'm considering investing $350 in a Brembo front calliper for next season.

Sounds like you fared better than the bike. Glad to hear it!

I thought the abs was just on the front brake. You say you can fell it in the rear brake.

I was expecting to get a skid when I used only the rear brake and try to lock it up. Instead, I had a very long break distance with no skid. For whatever reason, I can only feel pulsing in the left brake lever. It feels as though the ABS is working on both wheels. I looked in the manual but I did not see any reference to front or rear in relation to the ABS. I do see that Vespa dealers are posting this online: “Piaggio was the first worldwide company to introduce advanced active safety systems such as ABS & ASR on a scooter, now available on the GTS range. ABS. Each wheel is equipped with a detection system (a sensor and a phonic wheel) that instantly measure speed and deceleration. The sensors communicate with a hydraulic control unit with two channels that activates the ABS system if one of the wheels decelerates quickly relative to the vehicle, avoiding locking and ensuring stability and efficient braking.” Based on this and the fact that I couldn’t get the rear to skid and was getting pulsing in the rear brake lever I can only assume that the ABS is on both front and rear on this model.

After looking it up I believe you have duel channel abs, I think the Primavera just has front abs, it has rear drum brakes. That's the one I'm looking at getting in the spring. I have a 1963 Vespa VNB which is cool, but I want a new one also.
