Over here in the UK I had heard of the TOTD and I have watched a few videos featuring since. Isn't there a tree where they hang bike parts that have been damaged at the Cafe you went to. I don't think you put yourself to shame on your Vespa in the speed you were doing but I do think those that passed you took some unnecessary risks. Great to see all the sensible people out there enjoying using their vehicles.

Ah yes, “The Tree of Shame”. I didn’t mention it but you can see it as I ride by at 5:56. Thankfully, I didn’t hang any Vespa parts! Thanks for watching and take care over there in the UK. 👍

I've had many different styles of bikes in my 32 years of riding. Currently, I have an '86 Goldwing and '05 Goldwing. Both absolute monsters/pigs. I would love to have a Vespa. I'm "only" 51, but lugging those things around gets tiresome. The local dealer (motorcycles, not other stuff) has a few of these scooters at significant discount. I think it's because they're comparatively expensive and maybe their usefulness in Minnesota is limited. I really like seeing Mr. Flatgrind using his as a touring bike. That would be ballsy in my area. Speaking of balls...one would freeze theirs off for about five months/year here if they were riding a Vespa.

Vespa with goldwings would make for a nice “stable” of bikes. 👍❄️

Hi. Just wondering if you do your own first service does not affect the Vespa warranty?? Thank You.
@flatgrindrides4 күн бұрын
It probably depends on the country. I believe that in the US self-service is legally protected as long as you are using the factory recommended fluids, parts, etc. in this case, I’m less concerned about the warranty. I’d rather do the work myself and know how it was done.

Greetings to all Vespa lovers and to those who want to become Vespa lovers from Germany. You described it beautifully in your video and I can only confirm that. In Germany the situation is similar, many scooter riders are just smiled at by motorcyclists, but in Germany it's a bit different with scooters. Here there are scooters and there are Vespas... A scooter is usually a cheap means of transportation that is used for all smaller trips. A Vespa is something completely different, a Vespa is an attitude to life, an icon among scooters. A Vespa is beautiful to look at, it slows you down and gives you pleasure. The advantage of a Vespa is that almost everyone can find a comfortable seat on it, whether big or small, it is the all-purpose weapon among scooters. A Vespa needs to be stroked by people who also know how to tinker with it, as it is not perfect, but a diva that can be a bit of a bitch. I myself have ridden many motorcycles and three years ago I bought and restored a Vespa ET4 125. Until recently I also owned a BMW F650GS Twin 800cc, which I swapped for a Vespa GTS 300 Super and I think I did exactly the right thing. I love this machine, the powerful acceleration of the 22 hp engine up to 80 km/h. Above 100 km/h it gets a bit tough, but that's not what you want to do with a Vespa anyway. So Joe, buy one of these and enjoy every second. And if you are unsure, see if you can borrow one to try it out. It's not for everyone, but once you've taken a liking to it, it's like an addiction. Greetings Stephan
@flatgrindridesАй бұрын

Hello, great video, as always. I wanted to make a comment about changing the oil in your engine. Why don't you use a large syringe to which you attach a small rubber tube so that it can easily enter the loading hole? You could easily calculate the amount of oil to introduce into the engine and work less to fill the oil sump
@flatgrindridesАй бұрын
This could work quite nicely. This was my first time working on a Vespa, so you got to see me try to figure things out as I go. Also, I’m not a mechanic, but posting stuff like this on KZbin for all to see and comment on gives people who have more experience or better ideas an opportunity to share them. 👍😉

@flatgrindridesАй бұрын
Don’t know. You can change out the rollers for different weights to adjust for faster acceleration but lower top speed or vice versa (to a point). modernvespa.com/forum/topic147219 I also don’t know if there is an electronic governor that would limit top speed. I should probably know this, but I can’t remember. Keep in mind that I am riding at or above 5,000 feet elevation so your results closer to sea level might be different.

I'm a bit like Joe. Nowadays I have an 883 that I love, but I can't stop trying out bikes to see which will be the next one. Classic Vespas have always caught my attention, but somehow I ignored the modern ones. Since I went into a Piaggio dealership to check out some Moto Guzzis, and of course, there were also Vespas, the 946 on display sparked something in me. Since then, I haven't stopped watching videos. I think the first one will be a Sprint 125; it seems more aesthetically faithful to the Vespas of yesteryear. Greetings from Spain, in this case, I suppose I'm more of a José or Pepe than a Joe? 😂

Myself and some friends were just at the Back of the Dragon in Virginia, in mid-June. We opted not to do the Tail ride as it was a bit farther for some of us (me, coming from New Jersey), and the potential of high traffic congestion (being the middle of June) on the road. How was the ride safety while on the Tail? Great twisty footage on your South to North run. When I was on the Back of the Dragon, some riders noted that I sometimes took turns without my brake lights on, (my engine compression was lowering my speed as I picked my lines), while they talked about trail-braking. Without a clutch the skill doesn’t seem to translate to bikes with CVT drives. Did you have a way for taking the turns? Wow, no small share of morons and idiots on the road when they overtook those in front of them. Great pics at the end. Thanks for posting.
@flatgrindridesАй бұрын
Thanks! My Super Tenere has pretty heavy engine breaking when you come off the throttle, so sometimes I will grab a little brake just so my brake lights are on for the driver behind me. With the Vespa on the Tail I wasn’t doing anything special, just trying to be smooth and occasionally trail braking or using some front brake to keep weight on the front end. The Vespa is so light I find that it is much more forgiving in terms of technique. Hope you had a good trip!
@ScooterwolfsMotovlogАй бұрын
@@flatgrindrides thanks. I’m just starting to edit my footage. Sounds like we do the same thing. My bike is a maxi-scooter so I generally use both brakes to reduce speed, but I know what you mean by signaling the rider/driver behind you that you’re slowing down.
