Research suggests that military personnel and veterans are at a higher risk of developing dementia, due to their increased exposure to potential risk factors such as traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder.
The aim of this work sought to work collaboratively with veterans and their carers to learn more about veterans’ experiences of living with dementia and the unique challenges they may face.
Veterans with dementia and their carers across Dorset attended a series of creative workshops and took part in activities including cooking, drumming, instant theatre and music. During the workshops, the group were invited to speak about their time in the military and their experiences of living with dementia.
This short documentary-style film was created during the workshops, featuring interviews with veterans with dementia and their carers, to provide veterans with dementia a voice to talk about their unique experiences and support needs.
