I got sent to one in Afghan after a long week. Guy used to be some sort of biker or something. Looked like any other marine honestly. Square cut. In shape. Rigid bak. Caught him once drunk and saw that old him. Hung out all night. They stak up confirms and keep count. If you don't want to know your number it makes it difficult hearing it. I was having some issues with my orders. Guy got me through 2 of my 3 tours. I still hate hearing the number.

So, the Grandpa is American-German that went into the Korean War. His Half Korean son went to enlist for Vietnam, and ended up becoming a POW. Gramps called up some of his old buddies and asked who else had captured sons. So Gramps went with a group of Dads of POWs to rescue their dumbasses. Gramps found his son, Pops, and he brought home his wife, but not all of the Dads came home and some of them didn't bring their sons back alive. Jump in time, Pops has a Half Vietnamese son, Son, that wants to jump into the Gulf War; Gramps and Pops break both of Son's legs because their family have made enough sacrifices. Son later marries a lady that escaped Iran as a kid before Islam took over, they have a kid, Grandson, who I don't talk to. But Gramps and Pops are the coolest guys I've ever drank with

They made them tougher back in the day. The training was more harsh and unforgiving. He used to tap dance through a minefield to train his awareness of his surroundings. He used to put a Santa costume on rabid grizzly bears to train for agility. They even trained to hit the bullets right back onto the enemy with a special bat. But he was so good he just slapped them back with his hand. Half his kills are slap backs. True story.

At my local airforce base me and my dad tore out the old carpet the chapel had. on a day i was by myself installing floor near the chaplains office i had smashed my hand with a hammer and i was cussing up a storm when i hear his door fly open and he steps out dressed to the 9s i uniform giving me this very calm but stern stare and only said the words "any man can disrespect the flag of there country but noone disrespect the house of the lord." I apologized and he talked with me for about a good 30 mins about the history of the base and the people who came thru it like Eisenhower. Best ass chewing i ever received 😂
