There should be an official "wide vewlix" layout specifically for home sticks that's just a Vewlix stick but with the stick further from the buttons like a Noir layout.

Noir needs more representation. After all these years I'm still a little salty over the old Madcatz fightstick pro, having been an amazing case inspired by the design of noir cabinets but having a viewlix layout... Viewlix works great on my small form-factor madcatz alpha tho.

Hori Fighting Edge is kinda shaped like fightstick pro but better in each and every way.
@MichaelHarto4 жыл бұрын
this video doesn't really tell the difference in function. you should've said that vewlix layout is more suitable for people playing with their fightstick closer to their body when their arms are holding it at an angle, while noir layout is more suitable for people playing with their fightstick a bit further forward from their body with both arms almost parallel/aligned to each other. people with wide body would almost certainly benefit more from vewlix because they're forced to hold the fightstick at a wider angle.

I’ve always made my own sticks have the sega2p layout

I have sticks with both types and find that I prefer the Vewlix layout. Since my arm isn't angled at 90 degrees but rather comes in at an angle from the side when playing I actually feel the Vewlix layout to be more comfortable than the Noir style. But like Mr. Sujano said it - the best layout is whatever works best for you.
@epicon62 жыл бұрын
The Noir layout is a 4 to 6 button layout in the arcades so the original design is comfortable at any angle and most games use the first 4 to 6 buttons for main moves so it still works comfortably. The Noir layout was adapted from the Sega Astro City layout which is a 6 button design. The main focus of the Noir layout where it's mostly used today in the Namco Noir Tekken 7 cabinets, is the first 4 buttons so it's easy to combine 1+4 and 2+3 buttons because they are close to top of each other so there's a minimal distance between all 4 used buttons. Vewlix layout has a long distance between 2 and 3 buttons when playing Tekken but that's also a good layout for Tekken. The Vewlix layout in the arcades is used for 6 button fighting games mostly so it's a good layout for Street Fighter because all 3 punches and 3 kicks are in nice rows. SFIV was the last Street Fighter that had an arcade release and it used a Taito Vewlix cabinet.

The first viewlix example is the Hori RAP 4, which spaces out the joystick farther from the buttons than the traditional viewlix layout.

I have it and I find even that to have too little distance. Id like to see a 6'4'' obese guy try to use the standard vewlix lmao. I dont think its even possible.
@narukami5973 жыл бұрын
Its way past time manufacturers started making fightsticks with much larger distance between the stick and buttons. All the midrange and above fightsticks have empty space inside their cabinets too. They crunch everything together for the sake of accommodating old players that got used to the old layouts.
@KindOldRaven3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, it might be me but if the whole thing with noir is more space between the stick and buttons (which makes sense to me) they probably should've added a bit *more* room beween the two, as the way the buttons are angled kind of negates the smalle extra space you have between stick and buttons in terms of wrist angle from what I'm seeing.

Yes, Sujano!!! THIS is the kind of obsessive attention to detail that warms the cinnamon in my buns. I do wish that anyone still made console sticks that slope down towards you. Every Japanese cab I've ever seen has a control panel that sits perfectly flat; HOWEVER, I believe most people these days play seated with their stick on their lap, which naturally slopes down away from your body*... so having the stick tilt the opposite way actually helps to level things back out. * I know that this varies depending on your height and the seat's height, but I'm a few inches taller than the international average for males, and my lap definitely slopes down away from me when I'm sitting normally on a standard western chair. Also, R.I.P. all three Sega layouts for 1 player, player 1, and player 2.

So I've only recently gotten into using fightsticks. Originally I got the RAPN because I was told it was a good starting stick. I thought the "Noir" portion just had to do with the art of the stick. Since then I got a TE2+ for a steal and immediately felt that something was off. Like I was scrunched in or something. I use viewlix now but I would honestly love to have a mix of both. Shift the buttons to the right a little while keeping their current configuration.

I’ve been playing on noir, and I really enjoy it, Especially the space between the buttons and the stick, I’m interested in getting the qanba mentioned in this video but the stick just seems to close, can any vewlix users give there experience with the layout and any possible complications
@KindOldRaven3 жыл бұрын
Honestly it depends on how close you place your stick too. If you play your stick on lap/close to your chest your arms will angle inward a bit more and vewlix will be fine, probably. If you like to set it towards your knees as much as you can you'll probably enjoy Noir more.

Some people say, astro 2p, others say noir, others vewlix, others sf.

My silly way of remembering is how Noir layout curves like a lower-case n(oir). My preference is Noir because of the button layout itself. Personally I couldn't care less about the space between the buttons and the lever.

It seems to me that the vewlix-layout makes more sense, as your hand comes in from an angle, and that's kind of the line that layout follows (as in, across your fingertips), whereas the noir layout seems to be more "horizontal" (in that the far left and far right buttons are at even heights or distances from the top and bottom edges, with the middle ones slightly higher), which would mean you'd need to come in straight with your forearm, which seems rather weird. - Unless, of course, the controller is low enough that you can bend your arm at about a 90 degree angle so that you can indeed keep your forearm straight forward. - But usually it would be a bit higher, putting your upper arm up and your forearm "in".

Noir is perfect because its design from the position of your fingers(point finger to pink finger) , so its more natural adn confortable.

@HellTantrumbull2 жыл бұрын
When it comes to the layout the F300 is using, it's still not good enough for me because of the spacing. if the the distance between the stick and the buttons was a little further apart I would use it more when playing a fighting game while other types of games the layout doesn't bother me. Don't know if you seen the PXN 0082, but to me that stick really feels terrible when trying to play a fighting game because the body is so small and the buttons are really close to the stick. just like with the F300 I can use it with other types of games, but in the case of fighting games PXN is a never again for me especially with the right arm pain it can cause in a heated fight. A stick I do like and continues to be my go to stick for fighters or just any older arcade game in general is the Sega Saturn virtua stick. the buttons have a nice distance from the stick and the L and R buttons have a different shape to help avoid confusion when playing anything. I just wish there was an adapter that can let Saturn controllers and sticks work on modern consoles since they would be fun to use with certain games.

The noir gives me less hand strain then the vewlix. Aside from the curve and stick distance I notice the buttons are ever so slightly closer together.
@Encrypt20003 жыл бұрын
Noir is easier for 5 button play styles for characters like Zato from Guilty Gear. being that noir is more ergonomic. I'm unable to play four fingers on top row and thumb on the bottom row with viewlex. To much hand pain to quick, very unnatural for my pinky and wrist..
@TheRealDustinNunn4 жыл бұрын
According to the Japanese, Noir is pronounced "Noor". Arcade stick-wise, for the vewlix button layout, I would leave the 8 buttons just the way they are and for the noir button layout, I would get rid of the pinky finger buttons and stick with the remaining 6 buttons because nobody (Including me) have never seen any arcade stick users use to their pinky fingers to press an arcade button.
@ForeverWinter18124 жыл бұрын
I actually use my pinky all the time on my arcade sticks lol but to be fair I have complete control over my right pinky independently from my ring finger. I can only wiggle my left pinky independently from my left ring finger. Tendance are weird.
