I have his DVD, The Art And Science of Groove and in a bonus section he explains how he has some sheep hair put inside his floor tom and how he tunes his batter head pretty much just under finger tight. It probably also helps that he uses coated resonant heads on his toms since my impression is they tend to vibrate less than clear heads.

The greatest testament to Benny's playing is when Mark was playing his solo, I wasn't paying attention to Benny. Benny has chops when they are needed but when it's time to groove, he grooves! An outstanding musician as well as a drummer.

Knowing when to go freestyle, when to do long breaks, when to jam, when to groove, when to stand out, and when to (most of the time) just hold a steady reliable beat or pull yourself way into the background. I’ve been a fan of this series since it began and have watched many fantastic performances thanks to it, I’ve watched this one in particular at least 20 times and it’s amazing without a doubt.
