A video I took using the stealth HD camera attached to my helmet.
I also talk about my bike, the VFR1200F which I have owned for 3 yrs.
The ride was from Newmarket to Bury St Edmunds via the A11.
The 'commentary' was made using a microphone also purchased with the Stealth Camera. Seemed strange talking to myself as I rode so please excuse the 'stuttering' lol
Decided to stop publishing after 30 minutes....don't want viewers to get too bored. All in all I'm pleased with the video quality produced by the Ghost- S HD camera.

I have a VFR1200F of 2012 since a couple of weeks now. Really like the model and it is much more agile than my ST1100. Had the ECU flashed so the engine is much smoother in lower revs. Fantastic bike and wish you many more pleasant kilometers.

Hi NN48, I was just surfing and came across this video. First off, what an absolutely stunning looking bike. I have looked at this model more than once but I still can't bring myself to get one for keeps. I have not tried one with DCT yet but did recently have a whirl on an Africa Twin DCT and that was a pleasant experience. Not the same type of bike obviously but the "automatic" gears are a joy and very addictive. One day all bikes will be like this surely ? (with mods for the die hard clutchers) Nice video. Take care.

Thanks for uploading. I had a 2012 first generation DCT VFR1200. I agree with you on the brakes; incredible. I wasn't keen on the DCT at slow speeds however. I now have a 2017, gen 3 DCT, NC750X and it's so much better. I think the current VFR1200 still has the gen 2 version on it; as it's not a big seller, Honda hasn't done much with it since its launch in 2010. Shame really, as it's such a good bike; and the build quality is on another level. PS: I didn't experience any issues with the rear shock adjustment as some people did. Ride safe my friend. Regards Peter

Hi. Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your report. I've just sold my GS and have one of these in mind. At first I thought this is going to be a boring old fart who won't take it over 60 mph. As the video went on I realised that I was looking at my own style of riding! I'm 61 and a driving instructor and would ride very similarly. Try to keep to the limits in towns, but not adverse to using the power to overtake safely. You have sold it to me. My GS goes today and I'm starting to look for a good V1200F with DCT.

I suppose I could be considered a boring old fart....I'm a 69 yr old great grandfather of 6 youngsters. Still get a kick out of 'making progress' but hopefully safe at the same time.

Well, just did the deal on a VFR 1200F DCT with 18k miles and full luggage. Flying to Cardiff on Saturday, live in N Ireland, to bring it back via Holyhead. Read lots of 'reviews' and whiney videos about how it wasn't what anyone expected, but yours was the one that gave me the practical info about owning one and useful mods to consider. So all your fault. Had a test ride on a Crosstourer with DCT and liked it, but unfortunately my feet weren't any nearer the ground than when on the GS. Must have a look at your new video. Looking forward to getting my Marmite bike.

Just looking to buy a VFR1200DCT, so thoroughly enjoyed your video. Also nice to watch a review from someone who doesn't think he's gods gift to going around a bend, and who tells it how it is. Would be good (assuming you still have the bike) to do a follow up....

Hi BiB, I no longer have the VFR1200F, Changed it for a VFR1200X (Crosstourer) also a DCT. Have done a video on the Crosstourer as well.

@@nitenurse48 I took a test ride on a 1200DCT and as good as the bike looks it wasn't for me. Getting back on my Goldwing to ride home was a huge relief. I didn't enjoy the DCT experience. Will look at buying a second bike (possibly a Hayabusa) to complement the Wing rather than replace it...

I really want to want one as been a vfr man for years, I just can't get past the look of the thing, (shallow perhaps) some angles I like, some I find just wrong. If only Honda had made it a bit prettier as it's a great bike in all other respects. So fjr1300 it has to be. Enjoyed your video, reminds me of my youth in Suffolk. Ps like your riding style, safe not sorry. Saluting biker a throw back to the AA who saluted their customers back in the day.

Enjoyed the video. I have ridden for many years and have logged over a 100k miles commuting on 3 different 600cc's . I appreciate your attention to safety. I am curious about you choosing the DCT model considering you mentioned owning and riding so many other manual shift motorbikes. Even though I have ridden motorbikes now for over 30 years riding everything from Goldwings to BMWs to my current 600's., I have limited feel/ use of my left fingers (clutch hand). My doctor told me I may experience less and less use/ feel of my left hand as I get older which may affect my riding in later years. I have been considering this bike or one with a version of the DCT to ride into retirement...Can you share why you chose the DCT model despite your riding experience?
@nitenurse48
@nitenurse48 8 жыл бұрын
H Tammy, glad you enjoyed the video. I chose the DCT only because at the time it was cheaper than the manual, which was suprising because when they first came out it was more expensive. I'm so impressed with the DCT that I think I'm unlikely ever to go back to 'manual'. Not having to use your left hand will be a big advantage for you and it won't take long to get used to 'no clutch'. There is a 'extra' that can be bought to change the gear change function to a foot lever instead of handle bar change.
@joematthews4015

I agree with you, the DCT is amazing. Once you get used to it it feels so natural and normal not to have to clutch the bike and paddle shift like a decent car.I have the DCT optional foot shift and it is brilliant, very seldom use it to shift up I use the button because it's easier, however I use it all the time to shift down especially when coming in hot, you can get through three gears and get some serious engine breaking in no time, The clutch is always in engaged so you are never free wheeling and the change just so quick. I would really struggle to own any bike in the future doesn't have DCT.

Great video. I really liked the way you put safety first, a good model to follow. I was wondering how the bike is for the passenger? Overall, it just seems like a very impressive machine.

@johnmillard95 9 жыл бұрын
+Tedinamerica Thanks for the comment. Sorry, I can't answer your question about passengers.....never had one, however, from comments posted on the VFR forum, its liked by passengers because with the DCT there's no 'head banging' when the rider changes gear.

Got the same issue as me with the whistley breathing haha, weird how that only happens when on the bike isn't it. I find that moving the mic to the inside of the cheek pad so the front pokes out a tad with the wind sock over it. Makes for better sound overall. I'm about to pick up my first 1200, I've owned two 750's for a while. See my videos, even took an RC30 out for a spin not too long ago, was a hell of a machine but poorly maintained.

nitenurse48 Cut an old sock up and wrap it over the mic, put an elastic band around the excess to hold it in place, literally does the same job! I've had the 1200 for a while now, bloody thirsty aren't they.

I have a 2010,1200 vf r F.very pleased with it,only problem is sometime pulling away at low revs.the engine snatches or jerkes ,I have to be quick on the clutch to smooth out the revs.the local dealer says that not much can be done,but it sounds like you don't have that problem,..any advice please.

I no longer have the 'F' I now have the 'X' Crosstourer. Like you when I first had the VFR 1200F I found it very snatchy at low rev's until I fitted a power commander and a end can. I also removed the pair valve. Added Ohlins rear shock and front forks revalved and I ended up with a totally different bike.

Hi Duncan. I no longer have the VFR1200F, I now have the VFR1200X (Crosstourer) but to answer your question I only ever ran out of fuel once abroad when couldnt find a petrol station open. I would always refill after I'd done 150miles on a full tank, needed a rest from riding around that amount anyway.

+raptor pome My bike has been very reliable, only problems I've had, as stated in the video, are with dealer service. No cruise control made by Honda for the VFR1200. 8000 mile service intervals, small service at my dealer £110, big service (valves check) £300 ish.

you need to blur your speedo out you are at least 20mph over the limit and before you start honda don't offset the speedo by that amount.... edit your video or get points on your license matey

+raptor pome As explained in the video, speedo 10% in accurate. Only time I was 20mph over the limit was on overtakes as far as I can see. Always stick to 30 & 40 limits. Have a clean licence and hardly think the police would take the time to peruse the video and note where I'm a few mph over the NSL. Thanks for your concern though.
