Apparently for Point Break, the producers wouldn't allow their stars to actually skydive, but Swayze was an avid skydiver IRL. So he invited all the crew out to jump on a free day, and took the cameraman along with them. Provided with raw footage and still-living stars, the producer went ahead and used it in the movie.

It's amazing that 9 years ago the lego movie set a new bar for CG realism, and now a teenager can get the same result in his bedroom after school *and have it wind up in a real feature film.* There's a lot of terrible stuff in the world, but the work the blender foundation has done to make this stuff freely accessible is just so wonderful and tickles my heart. The storm scene in MI Fallout served a purpose for storytelling. (SPOILERS ahead) August Walker being the villain was so close to death, had Ethan not saved him the story would have ended quickly and differently, however, Ethan Hunt was determined to not let anyone die on his team, no matter what. Ethan cared for everyone on his team, even if they seemed a little hostile for a while.

They had this idea of making a steam train based Fast & Furious spoof with totally crazy train drivers tuning their engines beyond all safety concerns and racing each other on crazy tracks that weren't build for those kinds of speeds. Maybe with your VFX skills you could give something like that a try, sounded like a fun idea.

YES!! FINALLY!! I like Tom Cruise and that he does his own stunts, but in the movies you can't really tell they were "real" stunts because there's so much CGI behind it that you lose connection. For example, when he does the underwater scene he said he learn how to keep your breath for like 6 minutes, but the final shot is so distracting that he could have done 12 immersion of 30 seconds each and no one would have noticed. Such a shame.

Great stuff as always. That point break clip motivated me to find some stuff online since it had been so long since I saw this movie. There is an earlier skydiving scene which is equally breathtaking. I think the major actors actually had to learn how to skydive. Also the Film movie helmet cam that i found while searching is crazy big for today's helmet cam standards. I am old enough to remember when this movie came out, and my memory is that they used one of those indoor skydiving fans outside with the sky in the background to get a few of the scenes. The actor being held up with air and nothing else.

There is definitely this slight of hand in film where if you start strong, put all your money up front, and get the audience to buy into what's happening, that once they believe you, once they're along for the ride, emotionally, any faults that might follow tend to be forgiven, but that doesn't really happen here in the Mission Impossible halo jump or the Mirrors' fire. They start off strong and believable enough, but lose us as fast as they sucked us in. I wonder why that is.

The background of that bike jump reminds me an old Unreal Engine 4 tech demo called A Boy & His Kite. Speaking of which, you should totally do an episode just on tech demos.

My boss at work is great friends with Tom Cruise and we actually had Wade Eastwood (Tom Cruise's Stunt Coordinator) at one of our live podcasts earlier this year, he had some awesome stories about some of the things he could talk about! Would love to see him on your Stunt Actors React!
