4:03 Zach and the ladder's shadow colors don't match 4:07 shadow colors do match My theory: The ladder is projection mapping, but the visible one is missing part of it, so when Zach walks up to the wall, he spray paints in green, which would later be chroma keyed out to reveal a duplicate projection mapped ladder but with the missing piece, as well as clean footage of the wall before he spray painted (I am assuming he used some form of complicated camera rig to match up the movement perfectly, maybe adding some extra 'handheld' camera movement in editing) but when he reaches down to put it back, the motion hides an EXTREMELY well done clean cut or something like that, to add a real ladder, and the full projection-mapped ladder is removed in editing, so you can't see the green spray paint (or maybe they just washed it off) and after he goes up it around here: 4:15 the camera rig/in editing makes the camera wiggle into place while quickly transitioning back to the projection mapped ladder, as Zach grabs onto a rope or something which then pulls him up just in time for the security guard to do his bit, before the camera goes back to Zach climbing over the roof. And I assume the parts where Zach and the guard are both in the shot, they're separate elements. So it might have been this with some extra editing to make everything seamless, or maybe I'm COMPLETELY off XD

Ladder scene breakdown theory? This visual trick is actually shot in a non linear fasion to make it work. Our brains are so used to absorbing media from start to finish. The breakdown of this trick was done in 3 parts and rearranged in post production to make this effect. Part 1: after the ladder had finished being painted if you look at the bottom of the ladder, or the portion of the ladder with the concrete ground as the backdrop, you can see that there is a real ladder there as Zach's legs cross over the painting of the ladder. Part 1 of this shot starts with the real ladder in place, Zach climbing up to paint the heart and finishes with the guard running towards Zach as he runs up the ladder and zach's body moves out of the camera's line of sight. This setup also provides the visual representation of what would need to be painted in later shots, ladder and ladder shadow. Part 2: Zach painting a 3D visual illusion of the ladder and shadow on a 2D plain, wall and ground. This shot starts with Zach finishing the last part of painting the ladder and finishes where part 1 begins. Part 3: guard running towards Zach only to find that the ladder was but drying paint, camera angle adjusted to make the ladder look like it was there from the painted visual illusion created. This shot starts at the end of part 1 and ends with Zach already waiting at the top of the building halfway hanging off the side of the ledge to give the viewer the illusion he had climbed up the entire wall. In post production the order they sequenced these shots for the viewer was Part 2, Part 1, Part 3 to create this effect.

Alcatraz TM facts, It is very overused, And with Spider-Man it sucks because with Tom Holland the Practical stuff could be so well done, the CG over his suit makes it a bit ugly. I do respect Marvel for their hard work on VFX though. Can you Imagine practical Thanos and Hulk? It wouldn’t work for a full film, As Thanos was practical at the End of the first Avengers movie. Ironman could definitely be practical though, but we don’t really have to worry about him anymore lol.

As for the ladder one, a few of my observations: - At 4:03 when he walks to the paint cans, his shadow is overlaid on the shadow of the ladder, but then at 4:07 the shadows show (almost) the same colour. - A switch happens exactly as he's picking up the paint can, if you watch the shadow of the ladder where it contacts the front of the girl's skirt, you see the shadow disappear briefly as he's standing back up - If you stare very carefully at the top of the ladder when he starts climbing up the first time, you can see it wobble a little, and the shadow wobbles with it, staying in perfect contact (CG shadow?). - There seem to be no contact shadows (AO) between the ladder and the wall. - The paint that he's spraying looks like it's being masked in. - If you pause at 4:11, it looks like a line from the upper ladder bleeds over his arm. - When the security guy runs out and Zach climbs up the ladder, the very instant his foot leaves the frame it seems the ladder switches to being projection mapped. As for how it's done? I have absolutely no freaking idea, it's an extremely well-done video!
@dospaquetes5 жыл бұрын
Here's my guess: The shot starts with no actual ladder on the wall, it's a projection mapping from the ladder that actually appears during a jump cut when he bends over. When the guard comes out there are two shots, one of the guard with with no ladder and with zach on the roof in a "climbing up" position, and one of Zach on the real ladder (continued from him bending over), possibly getting up to an unseen platform so that he's off the ladder and it makes both shots easier to blend. Around the point where the guard's right foot gets next to the backpack, both shots blend and the ladder is replaced with a projection mapping on the guard shot. It's then a pretty straightforward pan to zach climbing up. The only real paint is the vertical ladder and the rest of the painting. The paint that zach "adds" to the painting in the opening is faked So all in all, 3 shots. The main shot is him climbing up on the ladder, and then the shot of him painting the ladder and the shot of the guard running in were done later and it took many tries for both of them to match up with the main shot. The opening shot is a straightforward jump cut but the last shot with the guard running in must have been very tough to match up
