The fact that doing nothing during clank's turret sections is a genuine speedrun strat as it returns player control to the ship early is amazing

Someone should try to catalogue all the games/speedrun categories where „doing nothing“ is considered the optimal strategy. Just off the top of my head, there’s… Link staring at a rupee for 17 hours. The Hunter setting up shop on Zorah Magdaros‘ shell. Wolf getting swallowed by the Great White Snake. Sora turning his gummi ship into a donut. The Two Worlds speedrun where you coax the final boss into getting defeated by a bunch of villagers. Then there’s the secret ending of Far Cry 4 (but there waiting around is literally the intended/only way of getting it, so I don’t know if it really counts). And I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a Mario 64 category where you have to do that as well. Maybe it’s a necessary step when trying to travel between parallel universes, who knows.

​@@KeDe1606iirc the no A-button challenge has a strat in certain versions of Mario 64 where you wait on a moving platform for several irl days bc there's a misalignment in the way the game calculates smth which causes it to VERY slowly inch upwards infinitely

@@KeDe1606Ratchet 3 and Deadlocked have this. Mission 4 of Marcadia in UYA is simply hanging on a ledge or clipping into a platform and waiting for 2 minutes (this is now completely skipped in the NG+ categories), and ratchet deadlocked has a mission on the vindicator tournament where we go out of bounds and wait, so that some bombs don't drop on us. Formerly, in Ratchet Going Commando, the way we defeated the snivelak boss is by standing in place and holding down circle to use the sheepinator (we also did this on the mutant protopet in any% but that was obsoleted several years ago). In Crash Bandicoot 2/3, you can let Crash bounce on a box a few hundred times, do some difficult movement, and it gives you crystals to indicate the completion of every level in the game.

I actually remember doing this challenge way back when you released the deadlock or whatever the other game was called. I remember beating the turret in the ceiling by using the boots boost and the ground pounding into it. My game was beyond scratched at the time, so idk if it works in actual games, but it was pretty easy when I did it.

You don't even need Leviathan Souls for the Apogee Space Station, believe it or not. There's a hilarious oversight where the Turrets guarding the space station are unloaded as soon as they're not visible, and in normal play it slowly becomes obvious as the turrets get less synchronized. You can just wait until the turrets get behind the station, then safely hover down to the elevator to continue.

Fan fact, when revisiting Fastoon in NG+, the guide tutorial voices won't play since you presumably know what you're doing if you're playing the game again. But that voice is also used to tell you you got a message from someone inviting you to the tournament, except it doesn't play in NG+. Which leads to "Finnegan O'Qwarksalot!" being shouted at you from nowhere while you're walking to grab one of the ship parts. :p

Great video Ms. Champ! This was a run I was waiting for for a long time, so seeing this pop up on my feed was quite the welcome surprise! I actually speedrun this game, so if you don't mind, I'd like to provide you with some good news, and notes from the challenge based on how speedrunners tackle this game! - For the speedrun category extension Wrench Only, we actually do allow the use of Devices, namely the Groovitron and Visicopters for the purposes of doing tricks later in the run, so long as the weapon doesn't do damage to an enemy when used. That's our workaround in terms of semantics. - The good news is that your bonus challenge is actually a full success! There does exist a method to outright skip Voron, Rakar, and Verdigris and their accompanying bosses. - Nundac actually doesn't need the souls either too! There's a trick that you can do involving simply a high jump off of Aphelion that you can aim at the station entrance. The roof turret as well can also get hit by a very specific hyperstrike as well too, which makes it slightly easier though still obnoxious - When fighting the Giant Massive Energy Creature of Some Sort , aka Zorthan, that quick kill is actually how every speedrun kills him funny enough. - Going off the Zorthan example, there's actually a lot of enemies throughout the entire series that die when touching hazardous terrain themselves. Zorthan is just one of the more common ways to see it in action. The craziest example of this is Dino Grind on Sargasso, where the Groovitron can be used to put one of the Grunthors in a state where you can actually push the enemy. Pushing one into the mud in such a way that they get stuck is actually basically a power-grinding method for bolts/exp. Currently, KillaLombax holds the Wrench Only WR. In terms of a speedrun, it's actually one of the hardest of the WO's to do fast. Most of the tricks and skips that were mentioned here are used either in Wrench Only itself, or in most of the main categories that see runner activity.

I remember doing this challenge myself and posting updates on Twitter, and said it was impossible because of the the last three Gunships in Kortog being out of reach. As well as the ceiling Fusion Turret in The Apogee Space Station and Ublik Passage as impossible because of the Hanging Pirate Rouge and the Airship section. This video taught me about how it's possible to actually clear them! So thanks! For fully completing what I couldn't. Side note there's another way to skip the Hanging Pirate Rouge on the Kreeli Comet, you can use the Charge Boots to quickly cross the bridge before the Hanging Pirate Rouge takes it out. Good Video!
