How to Clean a Laser Printer Drum without Removing it from the cartridge

Sometimes the drum gets dirty with grease, stickers or something else.
To clean it, often it is not necessary to remove the drum from the cartridge.
you can clean the OPC without removing it.

For those who don't understand: you can touch the edges of the drum near the gears, that part is not involved in the printing process. do not touch the central part of the drum unless you are wearing clean gloves.

At a previous job, I used to do a very similar thing to a commercial sized Xerox copier. We would run so much paper through those machines it would take no time at all until the paper started streaking badly.

Used by wife's nail polish remover which is isopropyl palmitate. It removed the green coating from the drum and ruined my drum. lol. Time to buy a new one

I was going step by step, when you began you were moving the drum with your thumbs towards the ribbed side and said, make sure you’re going the right direction or you could damage the the gears. Because both sides were different, I went the way you were when you began. I didn’t realize you were going in the wrong direction.

Electrical contact circuit cleaner spray contains isopropyl alcohol . It also evaporates very quickly and you can get it from most Car Spares Stores Shop's. Just a thought if you can't easily buy the bottle version

Very useful and practical video. Had a question. If there are bands of color toner on the transfer belt, is it a drum problem or transfer belt issue? I cleaned the transfer belt, but when I I print again after cleaning the belt, it shows up again on the transfer belt and also on my print. Any suggestions?

I think it's a transfer belt problem. if the bands are vertical probably the wiper blade

Hi! first of all thanks for the videos, very helpfull. 👌🏽 I have a problem with my brother l5100 dn. Its printing dots in the center of the page. When i started the duplex print, the front page is perfect but in the back starting to appear some dots. Then in the next one seems to accumulate the dots. The problem increase whit more printed pages, the back pages have more dots than the front ones. I allready clean the drum with 40% restant of life and bought a new original toner. At the extremes the fuser looks wrinkled, could be that? Thanks!

@@viandant5 Yep, the pressure fuser roller has a fold that goes through the entire roller. I clean also the fusor film and the interior. This is a second hand printer (20.000 pages) with no maintenance at all. I think the problem started when the residual toner started to fall into the printer, since the container was full. Took the bearings and I spent like 1 hour removing all the toner they had inside. Maybe these clogged bearings caused the roller fold, because with 20,000 impressions they shouldn't fail yet, should they?. I installed the same cleaned pieces and improve the quality, but the still appearing when i used the duplex function, perhaps the pressure roller is enlarged by the heat of the fuser. Hi I'm trying to resuscitate a Samsung CLP356W printer after few years of no use. Cleaning the drum as per your instructions works ok initially but rotating the drum it gets very dirty again (toner powder not grease or else) and it keeps like that even rotating several times.Is it normal or should I assume the drum unit is too dirty inside and needs to be replaced? @@viandant5 an HP color laserjet printer m477. When I had removed one of the cartridges, when I was replacing some of them, I removed one that I wasn't replacing. When I put it back in, it gave me an error message stating it was either used or something and would no longer tell me how much ink it feels is in the printer. So I have no idea when it's going to run out. But before I removed it, it did tell me. So I'm just wondering if there is a way to remove one of the cartridges, clean it, and then put it back in without it thinking I "bought a used cartridge" and no longer telling me how much "ink" is left.

@@FeCAzorius Is it a compatible cartridge? the HP firmware updates have the purpose to create problems to compatible cartridges. WHen you removed it, the printer detect it as a new compatible cartridge and send that error message

Hello I have an hp colorlaserjet pro mgp m182n that uses hp 216a color toner cartridges . The problem I am facing is that whenever I replace drum of black cartridge , it's intensity of black in every print increases, slight outline of black comes around some words and whole page is kind of blackish.
