His friend he met in service said while in service, after his mother died, he would hear Elvis crying at night over his mother. It was Charley, that played on stage with him that became a lifelong friend until he died.

If only you could have seen him in person. There is no picture and no video that could ever capture how utterly otherworldly he was. You literally could not look away and it took your breath away. There was just no way any human could look like that. He was the perfect storm of physical beauty, talent and charisma. I have heard many a straight men say how beautiful he was. And in concert you felt like you were the only person in the room and he was singing to only you. I LOVE your videos and by all means keep them coming. He was a deeply religious and some of his most beautiful songs were hymns. And do go to Graceland and enjoy the ride! It's a BLAST!

Elvis never got over his mother's death. He wanted to make her life better and he states that she never got the chance to really enjoy life. People who knew him before she passed said he never was the same. his mom and daughter were his true loves he loved them unconditionally for the rest of his life.

Speaking of Elvis' heart and generosity, here's a story that I heard several years ago, but only read for myself just yesterday. I thought that it would warm your heart, as well. It's taken from Sonny West's book, "Elvis: Still Taking Care of Business. “Nothing touched me (Sonny) more than when Elvis bought a wheelchair for a poor elderly black woman who lived near Humes High School. Marty Lacker read a story about her in the newspaper. She had no legs from the hips down and got around on boards with roller skates affixed to the bottom. Marty showed the article to Elvis, and a nod of his head set things in motion. Marty and Richard Davis went to the medical supply store and bought an electric wheelchair. It was loaded into the station wagon. Richard and Alan drove that to the woman’s home, followed by Elvis, Priscilla, Marty, Billy, and me in the limo. When we got there, the woman’s husband answered the door, and we wheeled the chair into the tiny living room.” “When the husband called the woman in, she saw the chair and asked, “’What’s this here for?’” “Ma’am, it’s just a little something to let you go just about anywhere you want to go, said Elvis. It’s electric, so you don’t need anyone to push you. It’s just something we wanted to do for you to help you get aound better.” Her eyes teared up, and she asked in a soft tone, “’Can I sit in it, please?’” “Elvis and I reached down, picked her up, and set her in the chair. She ran her arms up and down the shiny wheels as the tears flowed. And I don’t mean just hers. We said our good-byes, and outside Alan wondered if the woman even knew who Elvis was.” “’It doesn’t matter, man,” Elvis said. At least she knows someone cares.’”

@@susyq810 For a man who thought he did nothing worth remembering, he sure hasn't been forgotten and he never will. 2022 showed just how timeless Elvis is and how the world still loves him. So much more than a singer. He’s just as much a historical figure like Washington Lincoln and deserves the same respect. There’s a huge difference between making music and making history. No one else can lay claim to both. It’s the reason he still looms large over music and other artists. Most, including some of the incredibly famous, are simply walking in his footsteps.

You're right about him not getting a chance to grieve. The press was vile publishing a heartbreaking photo of Vernon and Elvis racked with sobs at the hospital right after his mom passed. Elvis deserved better. I hope him knowing how much his fans adored him gave him a moment of happiness. I've been to Graceland many times, got to spend the night on the grounds in August '78 with a small group of fans. We mostly cried.

There's a major difference between being alone and feeling lonely. Elvis, like you said, had all these people around him and yet felt alone. Meanwhile, there are many of us out there who would just like to be alone for five minutes because we are not lonely.. It's an internal thing. Unfortunately it's the price of fame sometimes. I love Elvis music. I grew up with it. I try not to think about the price he paid financially and mentally.. Just enjoy him and his phenomenal voice. It's also sad to think that all the people you see flashing on the screen quickly between the pictures of Elvis are no longer w/ us. first there was Vernon who died in '79. His mother of course. His grandson who was more recent and I'd have to look up the details. Lisa Marie was the most recent.

I am sure the people who focus on his failings and flaws would hate to have books written ad nauseam about their mistakes, failings, and flaws by total strangers just so they can put their two cents in on the Elvis subject. Rays dream, or reality!!! I am making a reaction to an Elvis song, he is completely absorbed by the song. Suddenly I hears a woman's voice that he recognizes saying: I met him once when I was little, I look around, but I don't see anyone. I continue listening to the song, but can't really concentrate, then I hear a man's voice he recognizes saying: He was a good friend of mine, I really appreciate your tribute to my friend, I paid tribute to him with my version of Love me tender. I look around a little annoyed, I asks my little helper to stop messing with ME, I don't see anyone else there. Then I start the video again, I start to listening again, everything is fine and I can focus a little more again, but suddenly it happens again, although now I hear a man's voice that I definitely recognize saying: Thank you for honoring my life's work and for having such a wonderful sense of humor, you make people happy and proud of both me and the honor of listening to you Ray. I gets up and shakes a little, I look around, I look to my right and suddenly I realize that the voices weren't coming from there, they were coming from the left side. I sits down and shakes my head thinking I'm going crazy, but I intend to play the video to the end, although shaken up, I start the video, but I can't let go of the voices completely. My mind goes back and forth, I know who it was, I recognize both the first and second voices, I know for sure who the third was, but it can't be like that, can it? Nah stop now Ray, you're probably just tired, or stressed, the video is running, I realize that I mumble my thoughts out loud, not silently to myself as I thought. Suddenly i start to shiver and shake a bit; what is going on here; am I nuts? The female voice and the first male voice simultaneously say: Now wake up Ray, we want to meet you, you're one of our heroes, although you should be reacting to our songs too, not just his. The third voice then says: Ray is a hero to me for sure, but I think he loves you guys just as much, the only thing is… the voice trails off and Ray looks around annoyed, wondering what's going on. Then I hear a knock and jumps up, i run to the door and opens it, I am a bit annoyed and roars loudly: What the hell... then I see who knocked and I just stand there silent and stares. There is a limousine there with an open door, the person half-half shoves me into the limousine and sits down and drives, I sit and just shakes my head, I hope I'm dreaming, or I'm crazy. I must be dreaming, I tell himself, this isn't happening, it isn't happening. Suddenly the car stops and the door opens, we are outside the Arcade restaurant in Memphis, but the driver is gone. I walk in and a waitress takes me towards a table, there are people sitting in the dark, no lights are on right there, that is strange, why are they sitting in the dark, but I can see the table and their shadows clearly, how is that possible. I stand beside the only free chair, there are four people sitting there, but I don't see who they are, I'm very excited, what is this, is this a fu... joke, what the .... One of the employees there suddenly turns on the light and I stagger and look around in a daze, I can see that the place is empty, but wait I'm facing the wrong way, so I slowly turn around. When I turn a little more towards the table, I can see a beautiful woman I recognize, she is saying hello Ray, I stutter out a Hello, hello, annoyed at repeating myself. I continue the movement towards the table as if in slow motion, I undoubtedly recognize the man sitting there and stutter out another hello, the man says hello and smiles back. I stop in my tracks, what's going on, I rub my eyes, can it be true, yes it is because I can now see Whitney Houston sitting on the first chair, on the second is Mr. Soul James Brown sitting. Now I'm almost completely facing the table and see who the driver of the limo was and yes it is him, one of my personal biggest superheroes, he is saying hi Ray and he is smiling broadly. I begin to twist some more and the reason I suddenly come to a complete stop, it's obvious to anyone who knows me, the driver is indeed Eminem, I stare at all three as if I'm hypnotized. All three of them smiles at me and say that they were hoping I would want to meat them and maybe jam a little with them and their friend. I don't know where to look anymore, but then my feet finally lands in direction of the last place at the table and I just stare at him, I'm getting very confused and happy at the same time now, I feel some tears running down my cheeks, but it's happy tears. The man standing in front of me and shaking my hand is a young Elvis Presley, I'm about to fall over, but both Elvis and Eminem hold me up and they help me to sit down. They manage to get Ray to sit down and they all talk for probably an hour Then Elvis says: Ray did you want to jam with us, or just dine with us, I stutter out a yes I would LOVE that and suddenly we are in a studio singing a few songs together. We are going through a couple of Whitney's songs, then we play some of James' songs and then some of Eminem's, we finish with some of Elvis' songs. Several hours have passed since we met and we decide to do this again, but only as long as I continue my positive reaction way, how do they know how I do my thing, am I dreaming, or is this real.he just has to play some of the other singers' songs sometimes to. I promise to do what I have started to do and I am dazed and slaps my own cheeks to wake up, even though I don't want to wake up, it hurts so I realize that I am awake, it's all real. Eminem drives me home and tell me that in a few days time you and your family will go with me to record a song and when we all will jam next, well then I will come and get you again, then he drops me of and hands me a gift. At home I sit down in a daze and think of what happened, I can't believe it happened and then I see the present that I got from Eminem with a autograph on it. Dazed I go to sleep and I hold on to the gift that I got, in the morning I both can see and feel the gift and I slowly understand that it all happened and it will happen again, just for me being myself and keeping my own fans happy and the memories of the stars, that I now can call my personal friends alive.

This was recorded in the jungle room, at his home in 1976. He was so depress at this point that he didn't want to go to the record studio, just stay in his room, so the record company sent the record studio to him, to his house, to make money, didn't care about the man, but making money out of him. This is one of the song recorded at his home.

Peter Guralnick wrote two of the best biographies ever on Elvis (as well as several other wonderful books). The Elvis ones were “Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley” and “Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley.” There was a part in the second one that struck my heart and has forever stayed with me since I read it. Your comments about Elvis in this video reminds me of it. Guralnick says this about Elvis, “He constructed a shell to hide his aloneness, and it hardened on his back. I know of no sadder story.” Thank you Ray for showing up with heart and compassion in your Elvis reactions.

It had to be so hard to go overseas after Elvis’ mom funeral. Charlie Hodge was with him. Elvis was put in Sargents quarters cuz he couldn’t get any sleep. Everyone wanted his autograph, etc. I’m impressed Elvis came home a Sargent! Charlie was able to go with Elvis as they knew he needed a friend. Charlie said he and Elvis were in bunk beds together. Elvis on bottom. Charlie would hear Elvis cry at night cuz of his mom. Charlie was on top bunk. He’d tell Elvis all kinds of jokes to help him. I think once Elvis had his grandmother and Daddy live with him off base, he did better. Truth is I don’t think Elvis ever recovered from losing his mom. She meant everything to him.

Songs like this plus others from his later years show us new Elvis once again. I think and feel that it was songs like Until it's time for you to go that started some new feeling in his own inner soul. He show us how to be weak. He show us how to be strong. So much so that we who listen don't know is it Elvis or guy in that written word. Remember how he said on Million dollar quartet session that: "Guy is dying out there"? Now these last years makes us wonder is he still on role or do he live it. I believe he live it. And oh so well! Those who know, know that he could be strong in a second like nobody ever could be. Danny Boy is the song that truly proves that! Nobody sings Danny Boy if weak. Nobody sings Danny Boy like our Mister Elvis Presley!!!❤🇫🇮

Fun facts: When Elvis was drafted, the Army was inundated with letters from hair begging them not to cut his hair and then others, who wanted to wear Elvis Presley dog tags to show solidarity with him in school were told no so they stayed a massive walk out.

Paul Simon visited Graceland in 1984…He said he was unimpressed with the mansion until he finished the tour and walked outside and saw Elvis' grave. Upon the King’s grave, he read the lines, “He had a God-given talent that he shared with the world. And without a doubt, he became most widely acclaimed; capturing the hearts of young and old alike.” At that, Paul Simon said he broke down. “I just started to cry,” Simon said. “And I thought, it’s really true. This guy was loved by everybody.” Paul went home and wrote "Graceland".

He most definitely his singing his own story. He is so good at putting his feelings in his songs. So if you just listen to him you can feel it in your heart. You are 100% correct about listening to him. If you can't feel the heart in his music you aren't really listening. I listen to all kinds of music and Elvis is still my all time favorite and always has been. TCB always. He was one beautiful man.❤

Hi Ray 🌻I want to thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings with us. Even though it has only been about 6 months since you started discovering more about Elvis it's as if he was your lifetime friend. Thank you for taking the time to research who he was...not just forming opinions from gossip and misinformation. You have a kind heart ....an open mind...and a beautiful way of expressing yourself and we are so thankful you are here with us . As for me and I am sure many other fans....loving this man not only because of his music but also because of his humanity has been both a beautiful and a lonely journey. The beautiful part is Elvis ...the lonely part is seeing, reading and hearing so much hatred, and cruel things written or said about him over the years and feeling like no one cared about hearing anything positive about his music or him. I am speaking only of my experiences but I suspect many fans have felt the same way. You have talked about the jokes...and cruelness and hate others have always thrown at him. I also remember you saying for us to celebrate his life rather than mourn his passing. I appreciate you saying those words so much. They were very comforting and encouraging for many of us who have always felt such a deep void in our lives since his passing. I believe Elvis gave us all he had for as long as he could...he truly was and will always be a precious gift from God.❤️⚡

Such a lovely kind man.I think his " Normal" time where he could mingle with people was on the stage ,he could never have a normal family life ,he was Elvis !!.He carried the cross to share his gift from God with us with courage .I feel his mam's unconditional love that he lost when she passed was one mountain to high.God bless his gentle soul.

The story is truly epic tragic. After I read up a lot about his life sometimes I just got mad at him for what happened to him. Of course it is easy to look back and wish things were different and had he done this and that. The victim of outsized fame. What a shame. Still cant help wishing things turned out different.

Ray, I live in New Zealand. I have always wanted to visit Graceland, its on my bucket list. I am so glad that you are going. I'm in tears watching this and thinking of you having a quiet, heartfelt communion at his grave, that is so beautiful. I wish we could all be there to honour him, and will be there in spirit. So much love we have for this man who gave us so much, and now for you too. He is family, as you are now family. I am sure there are many others who feel like I do. Thank you for all you do, you really are bringing joy to so many people, as Elvis did.

How sad to hear this song. Surely there was a character and a human being. With the intensity of his voice, he wanted to convey love to us and he has succeeded until today, but unfortunately it was consumed. With a time machine, I would like to go back and show him that his was not a useless sacrifice and that we still love him. Thanks Ray once again you hit the mark, even if I prefer to smile in the morning. 😢💝👑🎶✌🍀

Ah love the reaction to this video. I was going to comment just the other day Ray that I always felt Elvis was so lonely even with all those people around him. He only had close friends in his circle and they would all go out at night as it was less likely to be spotted and from what I understand, as he grew older that circle became smaller and smaller and he would isolate himself upstairs at Graceland. I always felt Lisa-Marie had the same look on her face as her Daddy 😢 but we know how we feel having lost Elvis so I can’t ever imagine how she felt. I live in the UK and I am going to Graceland in 2 years time for my 50th birthday. It’s going to be emotional but so special. I won’t watch that video if you do one, I don’t wanna see until I get there. Thanks Ray, I love that you are so kind to Elvis and love him as much as us ❤️
