just came here to say i almost returned my ZV-1 just now after five days of use because it wouldn't connect to Imaging Edge anymore. I had no idea what the Usb reset app was i thought it was a virus and i just haven't had time to wipe my computer. I ended up doing a full reset of the camera, total uninstall/ reinstall of the imaging edge suite, and a PC reset and its back to normal. Thank you for pulling me out of a three hour funk of troubleshooting Vic.

I'm having a similar problem. I can't seem to install the Imaging Edge software at all. It's always telling me to uninstall then install again. And also that is has stopped prematurely due to errors. I have an anti virus and turned it off and tried all sorts of other ways but I don't know what else to do. Can someone please help? :(

Hey Vic! I grabbed one of these cameras and have found that it depletes the battery after about 45 minutes - while plugged into USB for the streaming. It seems that the amount of charge it's getting from the computer is not enough to sustain the continued use. Any tips?

You've highlightwd some good things to watch out for (auto turn off for example and the potential to crash) but leaving those one side, this was about as simple as you say. The software is a driver. My video conferencing software (MS Teams) recognised the camara immediately and now my ugly mug can be shared in glorious detail with a cool out of focus background.

Great video! My capture card does not have a USB input however, and I cannot actually find one that does. It only has a HDMI input. Does this mean I need to get a micro HDMI to HDMI cable and use the same process?

You don’t need a capture card for the usb. You can just plug the usb direct into the computer. Or alternatively use a capture card with a hdmi

I have the Sony zv1 and I am using it to record yoga videos. I’ve noticed that when my face is hidden the video darkens too much and when my face is in view the video lightens up just right. What setting do I change to keep the lighting consistent throughout the video? I haven’t found a direct answer anywhere. I’m new to this and your videos have been very helpful!

Hey Jade, this is all to do with the exposure settings in the camera. What I’d suggest is trying manual mode for video. Start the shutter at 1/50 and dial the aperture in as needed so everything looks right on screen.

It is not true that you can use the USB power supply cable that came with the camera - I have talked to a number of different experts and they do not know which cable should be used. Could you clarify this point please?

Tell the experts they’re wrong. I’ve used the cable that came in the box for steams and webinars for well over an hour and the battery didn’t budge. The experts should know that a correct cable needs to be data AND power capable and that sufficient usb power needs to be enabled on the usb port.

Update the firmware on both cameras and you won’t need imaging edge. That aside though depending on how usb is set up you won’t be able to run 2 cameras on built in USB ports. Not sure if a separate usb pci card would make a difference.

Hey there, set the video exposure mode to program auto. That should make a difference (it’s what Sony advises to do as well in this situation)

I tried to use the ZV1 as a webcam but the ZV1, despite the USB connection, keeps using the battery and when the battery is empty (after 3 hours), the device turns off. Got the ZV-1 in order to use it as a webcam for Zoom, but the charge it's getting from the USB cable is not enough, so after a while, it runs out of battery and shuts down. Details: - I use the "Imaging Web Edge Webcam" software on MacOS, - I get similar behavior both with the USD cable that was in the box and a slightly longer one I bought from Amazon. - Actually, with the long one from Amazon, it seems to be running out of battery faster. - I've connected it directly to my mac mini which already has many USB devices. Actually, when I tried to connect my iPad after that, macOS complained about an accessory that draws too much power (the ZV-1), so I wonder if I just need to plug everything else in a powered data hub, so the mac mini provides more voltage to the camera. My expectation was that if I had it plugged-in I could be doing videoconferences for 7-8 hours per day-not that the battery would run out after 50min. I also wonder if the people that are talking about how an amazing webcam it is, are using HDMI for data and are only powering via USB.

Hi Tanja, thanks for the comment. I've done nearly a 3 hours call with the ZV-1 via USB power with zero battery drain. It could well be that there's too much power being drawn elsewhere. Definitely worth trying the camera on it's own with the Mac Mini and nothing else plugged in that draws power to see what happens

​@@VicBarry hi! I've tried charging using a beefy powered USB hub and I'm getting the same results. I think what I am experiencing is that after 2 hours the battery just stops charging. It could be that this is a mechanism to protect the chemistry of the battery from being worn out too quickly. I'll try a dummy battery (DK-X1) and get back to you. If the camera cannot maintain power for more than 2.5-3 hours, this greatly limits it's usefulness as a webcam for professionals that, especially during the pandemic, have to do a lot of videoconferencing. E.g. tomorrow I have 3 meetings in the morning and I'll need to have my old Logitech on standby, because I don't know if the ZV-1 will be charging fast enough between meetings.

Hi Vic, great feature this but I'm having some issues with the camera running out of charge even with it being connected and apparently charging? I'm wondering if it's the battery as I'm using a 3rd party battery (to preserve the original) or whether it's a dodgy USB cable, or whether it actually drains faster using it as a webcam and the charge can't keep up? Hey there. It’s to do with the voltage. But even then the battery will trickle down. Most I’ve got is around 3 hours. Dummy battery is the way to go for anything longer

Hey Kieran, it’s actually a selfie stick 😂 that has feet. This is definitely worth a shot before getting a cam link, although the camlink will give you the best resolution and depending in what you’re doing you might end up going that way anyway. Hi there. Hey there. You need to make sure USB power is enabled within the camera, the usb cable youre using is capable of carrying power AND data. And the USB port you plug it into is capable of transmitting power

Thanks. You need to update the firmware and you’ll get audio via usb

Hey Vic, so I just started streaming with the ZV-1 and I thought the battery was basically not supposed to budge as long as it’s plugged in via usb. I run the Cam Link 4k with the usb plugged in also if that changes anything. Idk if it’s supposed to have the USB plugged in to the computer itself or a charging block in an outlet, I’ve tried both and the camera loses all of it’s battery after somewhere around 2.5-3 hours I’d say. The camera does show it’s getting a charge while I’m streaming from both the USB port and when I have it just plugged into an outlet, but again it slowly loses its charge. I know in another video you said you didn’t notice the battery budge at all after hours of use? Hope you see this, love your channel btw!

Hey Vic, thanks for the great video. I followed all of your steps on connecting my ZV1 and yet didn't manage to do it. it seems my PC doesn't recognize the app or some other issue. when i tried using the camera for zoom it recognized it but showed only the app's icon with no video. tried to use the USB reset with no success. I saw also others here had the same problem, any idea how can I solve it? Thanks.

Hi David, make sure you’re in video mode and try program auto. Also try using the usb cable that came with the camera as this definitely works. Other usb cables can be hit and miss. Are you on mac or windows?

@@VicBarry Thank you very much for replying. yes, i was on video mode and used the supplied cable. I also downloaded the entire Edge package (viewer, remote and edit). when i tried to use remote it gave me a notification saying there's no camera connected. Don't know what else to do.

At this stage you need to update the firmware to the latest version and then it’s direct plug and play

I have a question. So my camera is hooked up great thanks to you but can I also use it for my audio in streamlabs? I like my little vloggers camera because it picks up my audio pretty well and I would like to use it for streaming so I don't have to buy a microphone, but I can't find any videos showing if its possible to use a camera for audio options in stream labs. Am I going to have to buy a microphone?

Hey, great video! I've been trying to get this working on my MacBook but it seems to be problematic and the MacBook doesn't seem to be picking up the camera. on the camera it says it is connected, but my -PC- symbol on the camera is orange and not white like I believe it should be. Any info on how I work around this to get it working?

I've just set this up on my MacBook Pro. Initial findings seem to be only Zoom can see the Sony software (Teams and FaceTime don't). Camlink 4k works with the ZV-1 and MacBook Pro combination.
