B Skizzle. Umm I shot my regular backpack full of textbooks and my binder with a 12ga shotgun and AK47 after I graduated. The binder itself stopped buckshot and slugs and the 7.62x39 rounds went trough the binder but not all the books. I was genuinely surprised that I had been walking around with arguably better protection than some body armor.

So What Does AR Stand For? In reality, AR stands for ArmaLite rifle. ArmaLite is the company that originated the design for the AR style of rifle back in the 1950s. And while we’re decoding ARs, the number simply refers to the model number of the rifle, not to a barrel length, capacity, or anything else.

Atzin Not really. There has to be distinct differences between models for them to be variations of each other. Attachments are limited to tactical lights, stocks, vertical grips, optics, etc. These are mostly cosmetic features with limited operational usage (with the exception of a sight). If you slap a different sight on two HK416s, they would not qualify as being variants of each other. If there was a distinct difference such as one 416 having a 10” barrel and the other having a 9” barrel (The HK416D10 and HK416C, respectively), then they would be variants of the same base rifle.

It’s much easier to change yourself than an entire society. So why put your life in the hands of ideologies when you can also put your life in your own hands. Im not saying everyone should own guns, or that you should give up on your dreams, but there is nothing wrong with people coming up with solutions for now if you want to. You arent being forced to participate. Why shouldn’t someone be allowed to buy a full set of armor. Protection is just that. It protects. It doesnt hurt anyone else so I don’t see what’s wrong with it

This interviewer is honestly infuriating. It's not "fueling hysteria" when we have the ability to buy protection for ourselves. The way he phrases it is like the backpacks are contributing to the school shootings, which is bullsh*t. Having had my school shot up, yeah, it's scary, but the ability to have protection isn't fueling the feeling of worry for me at all. I guarantee you that my classmates who died would've wanted to have a bulletproof backpack. The backpacks aren't the issue, the shooters are, and in our school's case, the lack of support and help for the students is much more arguably the issue. Stop blaming unrealistic things like backpacks, it's the shooter and the mentally ill's access to guns that is the real issue. I'm still scared after the Saugus shooting, but having backpacks blamed for exacerbating the fear is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

I’m so confused, why criticize someone for getting their child a bullet proof backpack. “What are you saying to your kid”. You tell them look life out there is harsh but I’m trying to protect you as much as reasonable possible. It’s sad but it’s the truth life out there is in the real world is dangerous. And if I have to choose between getting my child a book bag that can save him if an event arises or telling him everything is alright and not to worry then I’m choosing the book bag. People want to feel safe without adjusting and taking the matter into their own hand. Just like higher security in schools many people don’t want metal detectors and armed guards at every entrance because ether don’t want to feel like their in a prison. They don’t want to be more safe because at the cost of doing so they will be reminded of the danger they are in.

@@thelazyalgorithm8164 yeah, but the fact is, they most likely wont save a single life, at least not for many years. People under estimate just how rare school shootings actually are. You're more likely to die from cancer, driving your car, flying, skydiving, or even taking a shit, than from being shot. Seriously. More people die from toilet relayed injuries than school shootings. It's like what happened with shark attacks a few years ago, people started freaking out about them, even though there were very few of them, in fact, there were less in 2012 (I believe the year the shark attacks started being pushed by the media) than the years before. It's just that the media latched onto it and made it seem like a bigger deal than it was. We would save more children by providing food for them to take home on the weekends than by paying for things to prevent school shootings. Almost any ither problem you try to solve would be a better use of resources than trying to prevent school shootings. The facts are, very few people die from them, and trying to prevent them will lead to more deaths, more wasted money, resources, and time. And less freedom for your children.

Regarding the "Shooting a backpack".. no, you were shooting the bullet proof panel to test and confirm it's capability. Now the extra concern regarding the fact the AR15 round went through the backpack shouldn't cause extra fear.. because AR15s are only used in less than 1% of all shootings. compound that with the low possibility of a school shooting occurring (though more often lately) and the round that would be more likely to defend against is a pistol caliber. it's a bit sad to hear the male and female students talking about how they would feel bad if their parent brought home a bulletproof backpack, as it would indicate that they are very fearful for their safety and that they have accepted that this danger is the new normal. This is an understandable comprehension and thought process.. because who wants to think of having to protect yourself when you're a kid.. However, in my opinion, this is also a great indication that some change in mindset and conversation is well overdue. There's the addage "it's better to have and not need, than to need and not have" like the manufacturer guy stated.. you don't have the fire extinguisher because you're going to have a fire.. you have the extinguisher in case you have a fire. Preparation is never a bad idea or mindset to have..

Yours is the repetition of the same argument with fire extinguishers: you're practically normalizing school shootings by saying that, equating them to car accidents and (in the case of other commenters) fires. That's what the people in the video are talking about: they are sayimg that even the presense of such backpacks means there's a constant normalisation. Stop it. Instead of investing into bullet resistent backpacks, smoke cannons and bullet resistent glass in schools, how about we look at what causes school shootings and how we might solve the underlying causes of them? The solution of bullet resistent stuff and smoke cannons and literal mottes at schools is a patchwork; it doesn't help the problem. It's treating the symptom of an illness, not the illness itself.

@@TheDrawnBlade Your logic makes sense but when put into practice it doesn't work that way. School shootings are usually caused by bullied kids who steal their dad's guns and have nothing to lose, bullying is a problem that unfortunately looks like it will never stop, and since weapons like firearms have become so easy to access to, one option to counter this is to learn to defend from such situations when they happen. It's like a car crash, we already know what causes car accidents we just don't know when they will happen, which is precisely why its useful to have a seat belt on at all times.

The higher pistol caliber allowed for home defense is a .380. And its a fucking overcomplicated process to get the license to have a gun (yes, there is a license for you to have guns in your own home!). There is no respect to private property. And still the government can legally decide not to give you the license without need for a justification. You may fit all the legal requirements and still have your license denied (and that happens a lot). So, suppose you fit all the legal requirements and want a gun for home defense (only, because you can’t defend yourself where most of the crimes happens, in the streets), you can start a more-than-6-month long process, have all the papers and certifications, and then, without a reason, get a big NO from the authorities. Psychos are going to find a way, always have. As a parent, You have to ask yourself Which would put your mind more at ease. better security measures And professional law enforcement or trained individuals at your childs school. Or more gun legislation, As if Implementing new laws Is like flicking a magic wand And making the issue go away. No Gun legislation especially legislation that focuses on the ar15 specifically, Will make the hundreds of thousands of ar15 models dissapear. I do believe that there are certain ways we can improve gun control And how to prevent guns from getting into the WRONG hands. But ensuring children's safety should be the 1st priority in the most immediate method possible. Sadly a lot of politicians on the left side of the aisle Do not see it this way, They only prove with their ignorance Of the issue, That their true concern is not the lives that have been and will be lost due to this issue, That their true concern Is ensuring their office By manipulating the emotional Climate of the issue

I think Vice missed the mark here. The backpack maker, is no more a violence profiteer than Vice. The piece would’ve made more sense had it focused on comparing private sector solutions vs public sector solutions. Private sector solutions tend to me mitigation, reducing the harm a given fire can cause. While public sector solutions tend to revolve around herd immunity type effects, or prevention. The piece seemed just shy of condemning a private solution when a public solution has yet to be successfully implemented.

wow this is the stupidest way to look at this situation. and for that old dude to say that it wouldnt keep children from being hurt is just ludicris. Children are struck with stray bullets quite often in the more imporverished areas of cities just on their walk home from school. in some areas the threat of being shot after school is very real so the idea that a backpack/vest isnt a smart thing to gicve to your child or that it sends a wrong message is just stupid as it gets. I mean the message it sends is that its better to be prepared and not need it than be lying on the ground bleeding to death from a gun shot wound to a vital organ that could have been protected by armor that you didnt have.

It's spelled, ludicrous. Just being informative. And I agree with you. They present it this way to help their narrative of suggesting that guns are the problem and the government should do something about it, like take them away from the public. Funny how not once do they ever place blame on where it actually lies. Why does someone decide to take someone's life in the first place? What's wrong with that mentality? That's the problem. Lacking the intellectual aptitude to not resort to violence and the lack of understanding the responsibility for ones actions. That accountable will always be elusive because the liberal left is always quick to place blame on everything other than the individual making the decision.
