Күн бұрын

After flying from Minnesota to Pennsylvania to revival a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle (Episode 82), I ended up in Kentucky. I scratched my easy flight back home and took on this 3rd gen 1984 Chevrolet Camaro that had been previously parked for 27 years. Sitting was pretty hard on it, the entire front end was seized and took a lot of work to get it into the garage to start tearing it down. Think I'll make it 800 miles home? Watch and find out! Derek, I don't have a sense of humor. Not one drop, ask my wife. I subscribed to your channel and watch every video multiple times simply because watching you gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. You are a decent, ethical guy. That carries a lot of weight with me. It's rare to find a "feller" like you in this day and age. So, may I just say THANK YOU... You sir have my utmost respect. I am 74 years old and retired. You make me glad I have lived this long. I also like the way you and your wife are raising your son. You have a fine boy and he has a great start on life. I wish all three of you the VERYBEST life has to offer. John

I’m watching this 3 yrs after but have a fun story. I bought my wife a new one of these Camaro in 1984. Black, new radials, 2.8 V6 with TBI throttle body injection. It sure ran. So that Nov in 84 we drove from Jersey to her sisters in Columbus Ohio for Thxgvg. Weather was fine until after Pittsburgh. It started snowing on the Trnpk we were about 80 miles into Ohio doing about 25 mph. The road had become a sheet of ice with traffic miles behind me and miles in front of me. I’d like to say at that time I had driven in blizzards, and snow storms up and down from Jersey to Va never a problem. Suddenly out of no where the wind hit us and the car did a full 360 going at 25 mph. I literally watched our world spin in slowmo for the first time in my life. Fortunately there was no traffic anywhere but we were freaked out. Bottom line those Camaro had very light rear ends after that I put 80lb salt bags in the trunk space for ballast.

Derek i'm sure she's gone by now, but it really should've been given to a struggling family that needed a good little work car or a youngster for college, my oldest son bought a sq body Chevy and went through it, we bought a long block 350 from o' Riley's transferred the the parts that didn't come with it, put a 299.00 paint job, 5 new tires, my son owns 2 transmission shops, so the only thing it cost was, our labor, when the other business got word, they themselves wanted to help to so now every year we do the same thing, this year it's looking good because of the Floods. My wife and i think what you and Jessica are doing a great service, thank you guys very much.

I wanted to let you know that you have changed my attitude about working on my vehicles. I am presently working on a 1985 k5 blazer. I parked it 18 years ago and just pulled it out and am trying to get it going again. It has all the extras including rat nest, lizard carcasses mold. Listening to your KZbin channel has changed my view towards working on my vehicle. I’m more patient and less stressed. Thank you for your patience. It helps me tremendously. Thanks, Ken

I bought this exact car when I was 15. From years of cutting grass. Lots of first for sure. My dad grew up in the era of the Chevelle and Nova. He knew I would regret getting rid of it later in life. He bought it off me when I started a family and kept it for me. He passed away in 2016. It had sat for a while and needed some attention. The summer of 2017 I got her in the barn and started working on her. It took me a year, multiple watches for parts, one surgery ( cut my thumb tendon and had to repair it), and lots of tears. We had always talked about working on her together but cancer took him from me. Now any time I work on her, he’s there with me and I’ll talk to him. Still love my car. Still miss my dad. Its white btw.

@@southernmost9429 The harder the objective the tighter the bond of the men who fought through the struggle! That's why military, firemen, mechanics, carpenters, police, etc all have powerful relationships with their peers. My Dad taught me bodywork and that severe discipline to keep checking and rechecking before applying paint made me a helluva bodyman and gave me the ability to deal with adversity throughout my life even overcoming severe autism. Very familiar car! Nice find! I use the cup things to pack bearings, although I have done it the old hand-mashing way. 2.8L V-6 is nicknamed "The Curse" in these parts. My son's first car was the same 84 model with the weird grid under the carb. The smog equipment crapped out so we discombobulated it, put black tape over the check-engine light, and ran it 50K miles. Shift linkage has a little plastic thingy that breaks. We bought two and tossed one in the console.
