I picked up a Ford powered Bricklin SV1 from my buddy Tavarish way down in florida. This car has been off the road for decades. Will it start? Will it drive the 700 miles home?

I don't often seek out this channel. Initially I found it through auto play. Taking a nap on a day off and waking up this man just working on cars was a joy. The same thing happened just now. Woke up from a nap and spent like an hour watching this man do what he does best. There's a certain charisma and philosophy you have on life that I think a lot of people (including myself) can really take some notes from. You're so tranquil and calm about this stuff. I don't work on cars much, tech is more my domain when something needs a fixin. But part of my workflow is to say fuck at least 10 times for something to eventually be fixed lmao. You're a good man. A backwoods philosopher in some ways even haha. I love this channel. I respect the hell out of people who just refuse to let stuff die and do absolutely everything in their power to get things back in working order. We live in such a throwaway society nowadays. People putting so much time into preserving things like this should be celebrated 🍻

@BrainDamageBBQ
@BrainDamageBBQ 5 ай бұрын
@@KnexRules8365 Issues with the Fiero's engine? The 2.5 and 2.8 are both great engines. Usual issues with any older gasoline engine are expected. EFI issues are going to be tougher, Google for electrolytic capacitor failures. Basically, electrolytic capacitors fail with age and heat, so even if all your sensors are good, they might throw a Check Engine light. A new ECM will be the same age as the car... so still bad. You need someone with component level skills to repair inside the ECM. Most electronics repair places just know how to swap boards. Contact a local antique radio club, we know all about bad capacitors... LOL.

But I do own a company where I fix all sorts of tech problems and let me tell ya, if I were to film my workflow like this, there's no way in hell it would be monetized lmao. I have no idea how he can remain so calm about these setbacks but it's kind of inspiring. This man is very zen and at peace. Part of your overheating issue could be that piece you found in the trunk. If it’s an air dam that goes under the bumper to direct air to the radiator, you have to have it. A lot of people take them off of fbodies and then can’t figure out why they start to overheat. It’s essential, if that’s what it is

Another great rescue. Right after high school, I worked summer jobs in the service department of a local Cadillac dealer in Pittsburgh. For the short life of the company, they also carried Bricklin so we had acces to both new and those brought in for service. They were so unique back in the day and sounded great (to my 18 year old ears). I remember new models in lime green and orange. I think the initial models had AMC engines in them and then came the 351's, you know, just like a Pantera. One came in for service because the doors were inop and it took several guys to get the thing open. The lot boy (me) had to crawl in and steer while they pushed it into the shop to try to get it fixed. Nothing major - just a distant Bricklin memory... Thanks for the trip in the way-back machine.

My absolute favorite car ever. I worked at a dealership that sold these when new and loved driving them, a little to much money at the time for a 20 year old. With so few left, It should be restored or at least brought back to running for someone else to finish. Even after watching this , I still want one. Someday……

2:12:50 - 2:12:55. That says it all. The man definitely has his priorities straight. Just remember ya'all, Derek spends a lot of time away from the kids and Mrs. to put these adventures together. They all make a lot of sacrifices to do that. He could of toughed it out and limped that car home, but he made a commitment to help build a go-cart, and that commitment is gonna be kept. When these were new I used to see One regularly in the little New Mexico town that we lived in. I believe it was green. A few years ago a project car lot had a couple of these that were pretty roads but complete. I did try opening one of the doors and they are heavy. I do remember one of the biggest complaints about these cars was the one that you noticed, that if the air compressor is down then there’s no way to get out of the car!

READ ME! ... I found a 1975 Bricklin and brought it back to life. It is relatively easy to work on. Once you sort out the doors the car is a blast to drive. I can send you pics of what I did and the easy way to make the doors work. Most everything is available ... carpet set, brakes, trim, etc. The guy who designed the doors was still alive, when I did mine, and had a business redoing these in Virginia. You can even remove the outer skin and replace it with newer thin wall fiberglass units and paint the car any color. The trans should be a sought after FMX and he was right the underpinnings are AMC Hornet. You have a radio which is rare and expensive plus you have air which I did not.

Most of us 'car guys' hear ONE weird noise on the highway, and it's danger danger mode... It takes balls, a casual attitude, and a good amount of money in the bank to attempt the adventures that are routine for Derek. Always brings a smile to my face at the troubles, and his solutions. I once thought Bricklins were exotic, and cool.. So did the unfortunates that bought them. Even worse than a DeLorean... only, a worse build quality.
