We can see the pain on her face and the tears she was holding back as she was rightfully affected by the emotional stories of all these women and children who have been raped. Not only that but just being there also put her self in danger of the same potential outcome. Isobel goes where many other journalists won't even think of going and brings us the whole story directly from the mouths of those she interviews. Her own take is a summary of what she learns. I hope we can continue to see her for years to come but I hope even more that she never has to experience any of the horrors she's ever investigating.

Children overcome things easier. I know I did. People just feel that way about children because they feel protective over them. But adults can go through worse trauma as a result because they understand the wider implications and they have fewer supports. Older adults feel just the same way about children being hurt as they do about adults who are their children’s ages. It’s all about the experience you’re going through as an observer, rather than the experiences of individual victims. The only thing I’d say would be worse for a child is if it’s their first sexual experience, which can happen at any age.

This post presents a false dichotomy. Patriarchy and sexism harms everyone, and often harms women more intensely as well as more frequently, but can and does hurt men and has the potential to put them through just as much trauma and even daily drives some men to suicide. There's no need to pretend it's boys vs girls! Everyone should be able to agree the patriarchal and exploitative culture we live under around the world is terrible and that it affects everyone, but is more often worse for women. It's not a zero-sum situation, and the fact that most aggressors are male does need mean most males are aggressors - although all men have a responsibility to be aware of the damaging culture around them and how they interact with it. I think the most frustrating thing about being a feminist is being constantly made aware that my female comrades do not often feel compelled to hold themselves to the same standard of conduct as they hold men to.
