Would’ve loved to see this type of support when the other unions tried to strike before the writers and actors. We work 10x as many hours, the work is 10x as hard on our bodies, we don’t get residuals like they do, and we don’t get any recognition.

It's important to keep in mind that their actual say is very low and they have to abide by a lot of mandates. I think giving writers more control could very likely improve the quality of the material they put out. You are not really motivated to put your heart in something if you constantly get reprimanded by people who have no idea what they are talking about, you get shitty pay and you don't get any real credit for your work.

If the tech exists it will be used. Remember black and white TV, 8 track tapes and cassettes, VHS machines? All gone and no one misses them. In every instance the new tech was better than what it replaced. Windows 1.0 was revolutionary. Does anyone still use it? Times changes...the world isn't flat anyone. 15:33 regarding AI is the core conversation here. Michael's point of view that AI is bad because it will screw everyone in Hollywood is not wrong, but it is also not a good argument against using AI. If Hollywood doesn't adopt that technology then some kid in their parents basement will & he'll be able to output competitive content at a way lower price point. I feel bad for these writers as their world is turned upside down, but this technology (like all technologies that came before it) is inevitable & it is wiser to figure out a way to leverage it then to fight it, otherwise it's time to start looking for a new career path.

Does anyone miss black and white television or 8 track tapes? How many people are using Window 1.0? In every instance the new has been an improvement over whatever it replaced. It started with the industrial revolution back in around 1760, Things will change. How many people, before these writers, have lost their jobs to technology? When it recently came to the gas and oil workers...these writers took to their social media and suggested that they ''learn to code''. It's time for them to take their own advise and move on.

@@ItWasntAPhase AI is useful for tasks like editing, linting & replicating existing code, but they don't invent, program or compile code into usable software. AI also requires programmers/coders to consistently upgrade, maintain & modify their platforms & training. If you forget the rhetoric and look at the facts it becomes clear. The studios did not want to talk to the union prior to the strike. So why not? Simple answer, they knew the strike was going to happen and it was okay with them. The studios waited weeks before making a decent offer of about 85% of what was asked for , while ignoring key sticking points. Why was that? They wanted the offer to be rejected so the strike would continue. Then they leaked the offer to show how fair it was. If it's true that it would only cost 1% of profits to meet union demands, why would the studios not agree to pay such a small and insignificant amount? Because it's not about the contract or the money. WGA SAG AFTRA are not the only unions the studios have to deal with. There are others that they will need to deal with in the future. The studios were prepared for this, not only did they have more than enough legacy content stored and global content available, but stopping productions and wages was a huge bonus in savings. Something that the shareholders love to hear. The unions had no idea what they were up against or how well the studios were prepared. The studios were very well prepared and knew exactly what to expect and had planned for it We hear nothing from the studios. Everything we hear is from union heads, their representatives, union activists and media shills, trying to gain public support. There is no way the unions will win this.

I’m very torn about this strike currently taking place. I’m a teacher and in my country we saw a complete strike of all teachers - early childhood, primary and secondary - for one day and the outrage among parents was really surprising and disheartening. I’m not attempting to downplay the fact that everyone should be paid what they are worth and that we all know current rates among many industries aren’t keeping up with inflation, recession prices and cost of living, but the fact that when our social welfare, health and education sectors strike everyone gets so up in arms and defensive against it, when people are openly showing support for this industrial action, it makes me very sad, disappointed and confused at the world.

We don't need to know anything about the strike. It's not our concern. WGA chose the fight, let them deal with it. This is WGA vs Studios. The studios are saving tons of cash. Bob Iger wanted to eliminate $3 billion in content and WGA gave him the ideal way to do it. There is more than enough content both domestic and foreign to last a very long time. The same people that took to their social media, calling us racists for speaking out about their gender/race/political and social agendas. Then again accused us of review bombing bad content that they knew was bad. Of course that little thing with the gas and oil workers....what was it again? Oh yeah, ''learn to code''. The studios at least remain silent. All we hear from are the unions, their reps, their strikers and their activists over and over and over. The more you run over a dead cat, the flatter it gets. Fight your fight and leave the public out of it.

This is incoherent rambling. It's also tough to take this argument seriously when you've misspelled the union name. The WGA is the writers' guild. SAG is the actors' guild. There's no such thing as WAG. Pitting workers from different unions against each other is counterintuitive, and it's exactly what big, exploitative corporations want. This strike is more visible than others because it affects our entertainment; stuff many of us watch and care about. Hopefully this strike can bring attention to other labor disputes and other unions' plights. The public hasn't been asked to boycott or change their habits in any way. They're simply being made aware of what the workers want from their employers.

Look at the target audience, they sit there and watch reality TV crap. Look what they did with the history channel, everything’s being dumbed down. They could pay a junior high school kid to write this garbage, and they know this, so maybe they need an A scale and a B scale..for the writers that suck

Guys, you have to realize, as I'm sure you already do, that film and television production in any capacity is not a steady career. It never was and cannot be reconfigured into something as secure as factory work or some civil service job.

It’ll actually take about 5 - 7 years for AI to be fully as good or much better than human writers today. Studios are banking on this so that’s why they’re waiting it out, and they’ll do other forms of entertainment in the mean time. People don’t realize how fast AI is improving, its not improving linearly it’s improving exponentially. I’m sry but writers and actors and the rest of all of us are gonna get automated soon

Machine learning is just the process of turning input into output, without any real purpose or inspiration to it like humans are capable of. If machine learning writes your scripts, and then more and more of the past scripts it learns from are ones written by machines, then future scripts are going to have severe defects along the lines of what happens to genetics after several generations of incest. These "incestuous" pools of samples for machine learning are going to kill the movement. Even if machines can write first drafts, you still need authors to refine if not completely rewrite the draft. Humans will never be completely removed from the process, because "AI" isn't actually real.

Dear protesters stop crying and go rent some camaras and make your own stuff. If you dont like your boss terms go make your own. Why even protest just move on they couldnt afford you. Go do your own thing and show them what they missed out on. Same to everyone in unions. You dont like it, leave, let them fail.

What’s that 8epispdes paying you and I will tell you what they pay me you would leave that show cus you need more money bro are you all that detached from reality .? Not sure how AI can direct, but writing unto itself is undoubtedly besieged, and, if we're being honest, it could probably do a better job than most script doctors, but scriptwriting itself still needs humans; AI creative writing is very formulaic ... but probably not for long
