The problem with trying to pin down Anonymous is that it’s not REALLY an organized group. There is a core of high level hackers that interact with one another, but it’s closer to a movement than a singular organization.

Shawn Henry recommends legal avenues of cyber protesting. I've tried protesting a local smelter and raising awareness to the danger of toxic metal fumes and Ring, the doorbell camera company, took down my posts and wrote that their service was not to be used for political purposes. Public Health should never be political.

Local AQMD requires 6 or more people during off hours to call before they will dispatch an inspector. A lighter than daytime crew, large area to cover and contributions to local politicians and school district prevent any meaningful investigation. Most offgassing is done after business hours. The smelter is directly adjacent to a junior high school. An indoor gymnasium was even constructed with donations from the foundry. The odor is strongly metallic and slightly chlorinated. I have canvassed the area and neighbors report the issue when asked, but not really motivated to call or too busy to notice. Complacency is what this company is depending on to continue operating.
@gerade-aus
@gerade-aus 10 ай бұрын
@Player-pj9kt Specifically, no. My Ring cameras only cover the immediate area. I typically would post a notification when they offgassed and provided the phone number asking neighbors to report the foundry. That was enough to get my posts removed.

I used to be part of Anonymous while ago. We were a movement that was structured by a process, we were never an organisation. I still don't know anyone by names, we all used username, P2P channels, we had to collaborate on tasks that we believe they helped humanity in general and that was the only common thing. We voted on many things to avoid any bias in many decisions and that's pretty much it from my experience. I used to be part of operations in WikiLeaks about the Arab spring, the Israeli occupation, and US elections.

I don"t know if you are lying, or if you were lied to, but there is no "process" inside anonymous or anything like that. Anonymous is a descentralized movement, the groups that call themselves anonymous can have a process and even a hierarchy, but they are only a part of the movement, there was lots of well know groups that called themselves anonymous, some good, others not so much, and there always will be since anyone can say "I am an anonymous". Nowadays, most people who calls themselves anonymous is just a script kid, lammer, or a troll. Big groups who make large data breaches and use the name anonymous do that because it is a great marketing strategy, and it is no secret to anyone, after all, if your company is being attacked by a group who call themselves anonymous and you are not an expert, you are most likely to pay what they are charging you, because it is a "group" that you know that have made great things before. But probably it is not event them who are attacking you, and just a bunch of indians making scams in small companies

In computing, a crash, or system crash, occurs when a computer program such as a software application or an operating system stops functioning properly. They have done credit bureaus I believe, insurance companies have been regular hacked but likely would be a huge liability if they made a big public fuss. However, I'm aware of scammers blackmailing an elderly man running a financial business and they nearly wiped him out. Really sad... But that wasn't anonymous, just scammers. As an IT specialist, my honest best advice is to store as much private info in paper files offline. For voting, in person, paper ballots with purple thumb ink. Perfect security is impossible, especially if the software requires maintenance or logins that people often forget, so someone needs to gain access on a locked system, hence backdoors and keys for the IT specialists. So there's always a built in vulnerability besides any accidental ones. 😎👍

Some rando calls out something, enough people agree and pass it on, making the round until enough people capable of taking action get wind of it. "We are Anonymous" is a call to action more than anything. Now you're Anonymous, now you're not. That's why enforcement will never be able to "catch everyone". Anonymous has certainly had a huge impact on the landscape of online activism and digital culture. Exploring their beginnings not only gives us a clearer understanding of their motives and actions but also offers a unique perspective on the evolution of internet communities and cyber activism. It's intriguing to see how groups like these have shaped the dialogue around digital privacy and freedom of speech. What an engaging and thought-provoking topic!

The thing about the FBI letting Stratfor get hacked... it's a valid point. The other side of the coin is that if they had prevented the hack, then fewer Anonymous members would have been vulnerable to prosecution... which, realistically, means that they (Anonymous members) would have wandered off and found another target. Or come back at Stratfor some other time. So, as the saying goes, the FBI gave the Anonymous members enough rope to hang themselves. I'm no cheerleader for many of the things the FBI has done, but from their perspective, the Stratfor thing was a rational decision. Ultimately, the question in this type of situation is whether or not society wants police to be able to take action on someone they *think* is going to do something, or do we want the police to wait until someone has *actually* done that thing?
