And most folks with guns aren't in militias. Whether we like it or not, we are a nation of laws. MLK wrote about this. About taking the punishment for breaking laws, protesting peacefully, and taking things to court. If this sherriff and others had a problem, they should have taken it up to the Supreme Court. And just like everyone else who has problems with the laws... dealt with it the legal way. Imagine if every town sherriff did whatever he felt like it? Our country would be the wild west. And I'm sure some of you fantasize about the wild west, but it was an approximate 10 years span where disease, cannibalism, child brides, etc existed. And btw.... guns were left with the sherriff.

@@josefradetzky8873 By your logic, no one over 30 should own "arms". The whole point of the admendment was to be able to draw a well regulated militia from the general population for the defense of a "free state". The 2nd critically says "the people" because regardless of who you were being a well trained gun owner was beneficial to the emerging United States as you could be called on to defend the liberty of the nation. This admendment was encouraging the people to be akin to army national guard and prepared to pick up their guns and defend the freedom of the state. I grew up in a rural area where everyone had at least 1gun, for good reason, and nobody touched the family guns until they were properly serious about gun safety and had been trained. I see too many folks with no business having access to guns, no trigger discipline, and no understanding of when their weapon is loaded getting their hands on guns. I think the 2nd has protection against this by stipulating training and regulation as part of the rights to own a gun. Further I think that weapon use, safety, training and background checks should be free and widely available to current and future gun owners and final licencing should be affordable (similar to getting a driver's license). On the other side, if a person proves to be a reckless or criminal gun owner the license should be removable and a person barred from owning guns to protect citizens from the domestic threat of a deranged killer with access to semi-automatic rifles.

@@blindmown Take firearms away from everyone? No. A sane, sober and moral law abiding gun owner should not be categorized the same as a criminal and punished. Its already legal precedent that the police are NOT OBLIGATED TO PROTECT YOU. And yet we need MORE legislation to further restrict lawful gun owners right to bear arms. Denying them the ability to protect themselves if and when the police cannot reach them in time. I agree that school shootings, cop killings and the like are tragedies and we need to do more as a society to address them. But lets cut the crap! The gun control debate is politicized and perverted. Exactly! They'll break the law themselves to aid and abet these criminals, especially if ICE wants them because they're criminals! No matter that they're all breaking the law every single day they're here in this country. They have no problem in helping these people break the laws every single day, because they themselves are corrupt beyond reason, that stuff is second nature to them. It's what they do, it's who they are. Acting like they're taking some higher road not traveled, when it's nothing more than them breaking the law by helping other people break the law. Nevermind that it's in the constitution that these people are here illegally. Logic and common sense escapes them about vetting people coming into this country, when they could be drug lords, drug mules, drug users, criminals, and on and on. The term illegal somehow doesn't equate in their mind, because their ignorance and self righteousness and arrogance blinds them to their own stupidity. Watch "Seattle is dying" here on youtube. Very eye opening look at how corrupt the public officials are getting, restricting the cops from being able to do their jobs, no more arresting drug users, they're simply let out off charges the next day, and the cops aren't allowed to touch the illegals. And of course, helping the criminal element avoid ICE... ya, that's real big... Kate Steinle thanks you Don't get me started on open borders, and free stuff for everyone, especially the illegals... if these guys in their own party can't see these guys are wacked, that probably means they're just as wacked as they are. It's hard to have hope for the future of this country when this very mentality is growing up in our educational system, the leaders of tomorrow are liberal as they come, and getting more insanely radical by the day. It's going to be interesting to see how gun control plays out. Because like someone said... come for our guns, and it's war. Gun control doesn't work, it never has, it's an illusion. Gun control only affects the law abiding citizens. Criminals are laughing at your gun control laws, and they're hoping that they come for our guns, because then we'll be left defenseless against not only them, the criminals, we'll be defenseless against a tyrannical government imposing their will upon us, and turning us into a communist country. Ya, not happening.

You have to prove it illegal at a court marital though. The US military don’t take orders without thought. They don’t follow blindly. During the Gulf War a tank commander (a Lt Colonel) was ordered to retreat by his command (a two star Major General). He refused to retreat based on observations in the field and moved forward and defeated an entire battalion of armored tanks. Saving many lives. He was given a Bronze Star for his actions. If it went badly than he would’ve ended his career but he knew front field observations what command didn’t know.

@Keen R historically you are right. however as far as the military today, I can't speak for the LEOs out there, I can't agree with you. the reason I say that is because though I have been retired now for 15 years I still have some connections within the Army. I think you would have been more correct about the military if Obama hadn't forced the issue. that's right, the over 300 generals and admirals that he purged from the system was primarily d/t his insistence on swearing allegiance to him. that and of course oath keepers. ironically the units with the highest numbers of oath keepers are the spec ops community all branches, and combat arms. I think if the democrats (modern day national socialists) want this war, they are going to find out that the rank and file trigger pullers are not going to side with them. I do see your point and acknowledge the fact that their pay check will be at risk, but that is about the only thing the government has over their heads. god willing we will never find out. For fuck's sake, he's the chief law enforcement officer in that county. I know this is a shot in the dark, but maybe, just maybe, we should be asking the people who actually enforce the law what laws are feasible. You think they'd seek more input from professionals (you know, the ones whose job it is to stop people from murdering each other) how best to keep the peace. The reason they don't is that cops aren't going to give them the answers they want. What the police know will work is the exact opposite of the agenda Vice (among many others) is pushing. Then there is the issue of those in the Ivory Towers actually having to go out and associate with the riff-raff. Their job is to "help" us by telling us what's best and reminding us how stupid, racist, misogynist and barbaric we are; it's not their job to actually get to know us and see us as fellow humans. Since we own guns and don't use proper gender pronouns (deliberately) and most of us are white or male or heterosexual (or any combination of those), we need to check our privilege and submit to the moral and intellectual superiority of our betters on the left.

It doesn't help when the people developing gun laws know nothing about guns. It seems from the view of people who enjoy going to the range and shooting that laws are based on whether a weapon looks scary. Moreover there is a real sentiment that citizens should not be reduced to entirely defenseless subjects of a beneficent government. I honestly believe that everyone involved in gun legislation should actually have taken a gun safety class and have fired a weapon at a range.

IdarkphoenixI ok, hold on a second. Very few home invasions in the Uk involve a firearm. If they come at you with a knife, you can still defend yourself, just not with a gun. Also, the number of home invasions which take place while someone is at home in the UK is very small. As for acid attacks, there have jot been tens of thousands or there would have been a more significant government response to them. Moreover, most acid attacks are ambushes and so you do jot have an opportunity to defend yourself. Concerning knife crime, there has been a recent uptick in London which has been over hyped by the media. While it is a serious issue, it does not mean that I believe that everyone should be walking around with a gun. At that point, we stop having knife crimes, and start having gun battles in the streets. One kills dozens, the other kills thousands. Notably, the prevalence of guns, combined with a gun happy culture like the one in the US (rather than the one in Switzerland) leads to things like school shootings. Personally, I am fine with the current situation if the only alternative is an American style gun culture and gun laws.
