As Russians stream into Crimea to help wrestle it away from Ukraine, an unlikely group of Serbian war veterans, who have experience fighting in Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo, are turning up at the checkpoints too. VICE News reporter Simon Ostrovsky follows Russian troops as they continue their occupation of Ukrainian military bases, and learns about unidentified men in masks attacking journalists reporting on the situation in the peninsula.

Russians, Belorussians, and Serbs have a long history of aiding each other in times of war and crisis. They share an ethnic,lingual,and cultural bond to one degree or another. This should not surprise anyone who has read a book or two on eastern and south eastern European history, that one would find Serbians helping the Russians. The Russians went to war in WWI over Serbia, they helped the Serbs in the Yugoslav civil war. Thee afore mentioned are just a few more recent events in the regions history which highlight the relationship between Serbs and Russians. To note, during the Second World War in Yugoslavia was the highest number of partisans (after the USSR) who fought with the Nazis (Germans in occupied Yugoslavia were forced to keep more than 35 divisions to contain guerrillas - more than in any other European country). However, others were persecuted. There were even Serbs in the Ustaše movement, does that make the ustaše friendly towards Serbs? Of course not! First of all this malicious and ignorant interviewer has ZERO knowledge of history Chetniks DON'T EXIST ANYMORE, all of these people who present themselves as Serbian Chetniks are just using their name and tradition nothing more. The origin of the Chetniks dates back in 19th century, Chetniks were probably the first special forces in modern warfare, they were trained Serbian soldiers (special unit) for guerilla fighting and for special tasks, they were liberating occupied Serbian lands against Ottoman Empire as guerilla fighters. In late 19th century they became an elite members of Serbian Army and they fought courageously in Serbian Turkish wars 1876-1878 and later in Balkan's wars 1912-1913 and in WW1. Just before WW2 this unit was reinitiated into Jugoslav Army by general Mihailovic as special forces for mountainous guerilla fight. During WW2 Mihailovic's Chetniks were legal and legitimate Yugoslav/Serbian soldiers royalist loyal to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and it's ruler the king Petar II, THE ONLY LEGAL MILITARY FORCE IN THE WHOLE KINGDOM OF YUGOSLAVIA. From 1945 onwards Chetniks left Yugoslavia many were executed by communists, some of them became ordinary citizens some communist, during Yugoslav civil war 1991-1995 many units called themselves Chetniks but in reality Chetniks do not exist anymore. These days some Serbian veterans from Yugoslav war think they are Chetniks but nobody of them is actually one, they are just trying to portrait themselves as Chetniks in order to cherish Chetnik philosophy and to maintain a tradition. Former Serbs (Croatians, Bosnian Muslims etc.) they use the term Chetnik to mark all present Serbs or at least ones who are Serbian patriots, nationalist and royalists.
