Hold on to the ball and don't jump to any quick decisions and try to figure out the best end result. He could have easily sold that ball at auction for life changing money yet decided to go the best route possible where everyone wins. This guy is a complete badass in my book. Catching hit balls is a big part of baseball. Zack caught a special ball, after buying a prime location ticket, being ready and making the catch. This is a valuable ball and potentially worth a good bit of money (to him), that is pennies to the Team and even A-Rod. So let’s be fair, all the haters who trashed Zack, “claim” they would give it back immediately. But would they ? It’s easy to say that, until YOU have $50,000 - $250,000 in your hand. Zack was badgered into what he did eventually, but he could have auctioned the ball, gave $150,000 to his charity and still had plenty left over. He should have gotten something out of this, whether you like him or not. I just don’t believe all the hate mail was written by “saints” who would have handed it over. Sorry.

When the world paints you as a money hungry, terrible person, but deep down, all this guy wanted was to own that baseball forever simply for the fact that it made him happy and proud that he achieved one of the peaks of something he has put hours, days and years into doing. On top of it, when he did one of the hardest things for him to do, giving the ball back, he did it in recognition of a charity. The world needs more passionate individuals that work hard at what they love, with good hearts like yours Zack Hample.

I don't really understand why giving it back to him was such a necessity. It's like the old adage "give it to the kid." You are not required to give the ball to them. Is it a nice gesture, sure, but they have many more years of attending games in them. Sooner or later, they can get a tossup themselves. Same with A-Rod's 3000th hit. You're not required to give it back to him. I think of it as winning the lottery. You get $300M and according to this, people expect you to spend it on developing countries in Africa, helping the homeless, and not for yourself because YOU have money. (for buying food, gas, clothes, etc.) That's dumbass logic right there. He can keep the ball if he wants. So what if he has 8000 baseballs?

+PureValLiam A lot of stadiums, including Yankee Stadium, all open up 2 hours before first pitch. I know in my experiences at Yankee Stadium 2 hours prior you'll be lucky to catch the end of Yankees BP, but often get to see the whole visitor's BP. Every team and stadium is different, but depending on who you know, you might be able to get in early. My guess is since this was VICE and for an interview, they probably had some sort of exception.
