Yes and as it is with most surgeons, they have no or hardly any emotion or feeling. He is a cold player and seems quite weak, and of course most drummer like this have insecurity complexes and always seem to have something to prove with all the fancy fills they try to fit in. It has nothing to do with the music but rather feeding their own Ego. Read my book, you'll find it in the brain entrainment column on Amazon. It's called The Radio Mind by Lawrence Mailbrook & Rob Chaser. It's very good and teaches all about Narcissistic types like GH.

l'm one of the 100 zillion people who play guitar, above whom there are plenty who have set the technique/chops bar somewhere on Mt.Olympus, but ever since he joined Porcupine Tree in 2002...this is the guy l turn to for sheer inspiration. l listen to & study other high caliber drummers, but Gavin Harrison is in a league all his own. Surely the musicians he supports have to be incredibly thankful, if not humbled, being able to play on the same stage with him. You're a very fortunate man, Bruce.

He possesses a song...in the best way.

Gavin said in another video "technique impresses him, but doesn't move him. His playing here moves you. Such grace and style. Edit after 24 hours and watching this video several times. I'll start with I am not a drummer so bear with me. There are three distinct sections here, roughly put, the opening, the middle ambient section, and the closing. The opening is strong and pulls you into the song with a grooving hard beat. The ambient section is reminiscent of Phil Collins but way beyond Collins in phrasing. The mood set by the tone of his drums is other worldly. You could drop all the other instruments and never lose the song through out the middle section because his phrasing and tone is so melodic. Post ambient section he starts grooving, and what a fricken ride. There is so much going on but you never feel out of sync with him and the fills are incredibly creative, not a simple tom roll or such but massive snare and cymbal runs that float over the beat. This is so slick you need a cigarette and a shower after watching this. Seriously impressive on all levels.
