Your video popped up as I've been watching recessed zipper tutorials. Everyone seems to have a different way to do this type of zipper. I had wondered if I could sew a zipper panel to an existing bag. I am thankful that you gave tips on how to measure the zipper panel and how long to leave the zipper tape (I always cut them too short). It's perfect information to have when adding a recessed zipper panel to a bag I'm making that doesn't have a zipper closure. I think I may do mine a tad different if it's a narrower panel (because I find it difficult to turn fabrics inside out) in that I will fold 3 sides in to enclose the raw edges. I also like the idea of folding back the zipper tape instead of bending it out to 90% angle It was a great video and I love your sew caddy. I need one - not only for small supplies, but my machine's plastic feet have broken off, so I need to protect my table. Ty for posting this video and keeping it up. It was helpful.

So happy i found your channel, you have inspired me to work with zippers in projects. My first exposure to sewing was a queen size pieced by hand quilt, 30 +/- yrs ago. Every piece was cut and stitched like colonial times. I bought a straight stitch machine after that. Love your work, and eye for color on projects are beautiful workmanship.

Hi Vicky I am new to sewing and quilting and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your amazing tutorials. I have just finished making the zipper closure on a tote (pulling the zipper through wasn't so bad) and it looks fabulous. If I could I would hug your neck!!! I am a newbie to zippered bags! Zippers have intimated me for so long. I watched literally dozen videos on how too. I have been so frustrated because I have had to start over several times. The thread picker stays out on my sewing table. But YOU made putting a zipper in where I could follow it and understand the instructions. I did have an awful time turning the zipper with side tabs outside right. But it made a beautifully finished zipper!! I am so proud of my finished diaper bag for my grand daughter! Thank You!!

Vicki, thank you for sharing this tutorial with us. I finally found a nice looking bag that is a beginner's bag, so I chose it to be my first bag. I've been enjoying your tutorials. Some good tips. One thing I do with zippers when they are overlong, such as the one you have shown, is to use my edge-joining foot to both install and top stitch the zipper. The flange on the foot really helps. I just adjust my needle position as needed. If you don't have the edge joining foot, most machine accessories include the blind hem foot or an overcast foot which will also work. I think I've watched most of your videos. I think you would be a good Craftsy instructor. Something like: Bag Tips, Tricks, and Finishing Touches.
