There's a discrepancy in this video. When u ask her when the first time she sent money was she said about the whole situation with on the ship and him supposedly getting arrested and accounts frozen paying a captain to smuggle him off the rig for 4K. Yet at around 9mins in, when she's going on about having checked with her son the procedures for prisoners being jailed, and his attorney putting pressure on for cash, the voice-over says "by this time she had sent so much money she felt trapped ". Which is it?

My husband was an actual oil rig worker for ten years. Oil rig workers live a very luxurious life while on the rig. Yes, they work very hard but they also have everything they need for relaxation including internet access (including access via online to banking services), all the food they can eat, game rooms, exercise rooms, etc.. Anybody who is underperforming or causing problems on the rig, regardless of status, is on the next helicoptor out at company expense.

I used to work at a gas station as the overnight manager and one night, I went outside and saw a woman standing in the parking lot, crying. I asked her what was wrong and she tearfully explained that her son had had a terrible seizure and was in a coma, and she needed urgently to get down to the hospital to be by his side, but she didn’t have a car or money for a taxi. My heart was touched, especially because my mother died after having a particularly bad seizure in 1988, when I was only a baby. I started crying as well and hugged the woman, then reached into my pocket and handed her some cash to pay for a cab. She thanked me between sobs, “Oh thank you! God bless you!”. I told her what had happened to my mom and how I was so moved by her story. She thanked me again and then walked away. About a half hour later, I saw her go into the convenience store across the street and buy some beer. She walked out casually with her bag of booze and started strolling down the street, not a care in the world. It had all been a lie. I felt my face turning red with rage and a deep sense of betrayal; I’d been had. Conned. Duped. Swindled. Did I call the police? No, for what? She hadn’t robbed me, put a gun to my head. I willfully and deliberately opened my wallet and gave her money without taking 30 seconds to stop and think before doing so. Had I taken a moment to think instead of becoming emotional, I would have realized that her story didn’t make any sense. Why not get a ride from a family member or friend? Why not take the bus, which is only $1.50? Or walk? I’m a mother, if my child was in the hospital I’d walk or crawl to get there. I took the loss, shook my head and learned my lesson. What can the police do when a person voluntarily gives money to a stranger who spun a wild story? I get that it’s wrong to scam people and I feel terrible for this woman who lost so much money, but it’s not fair to make it seem like the police are “careless” or “bad” when their hands are tied. We also have a responsibility to investigate, do research, use our logic, and not take everyone at face value. I’m very sorry for this lady and hope she can recover, but we can’t just send somebody tens of thousands of dollars and then expect the police to recover it for us if we realize we were lied to.

Felt sorry for her until the end when she explained how she was gaslighting her children for making the choice to ignore her for a couple of days to process what their mother had done. As if it was their responsibility to deal with the fallout of her ignorance. The callousness with which she told the story leads me to believe that she speaks to her kids like this all the time. She probably does not understand things like: - she is the parent and supposed to be a role model for them not the other way around - they are not responsible for her and do not immediately need to drop everything because SHE needs them to. They have lives as well - it is somehow their fault that the only man she was ever with was their Dad and it means she cannot be held accountable for making naive choices? Surprised her kids want anything to do with her at all

There are a lot of lonely people both men and women because families have very little time for each other. The scammers act as your best friend and check on you more than family. That is why people help them when they have problems. And they find out it was a game of scamming. Sad! Human relations has not been resolved.
@FreeSpirit472 жыл бұрын
I find that by changing the terminology used, it helps in many ways. For instance, saying someone is a victim. A victim has no power over what is happening, no power to stop it. When a person is said to be a victim it absolves them of any responsibility for the part they played in being scammed. These people need to feel empowered to choose differently, to see for themselves just what they are dealing with before the scammer can extract anything from them. This includes personal information. Sure, there is lots of personal information about nearly everyone, online. Yet, for the volume of people that scammers cast their net of lies & deceit for, it's faster plus easier to simply have it handed to them. Scammers are scamming for resources of money and phone cards; they also compile lists of people along with their personal information to be sold. If the scammer can't extract cash from the person, the can make money by selling the persons information. Yeah, I have been helping people to see through the scams & scammers for over 10 years.
@shel6292 жыл бұрын
@@FreeSpirit47There are all types of scams. Romance scams standout more. I do not believe we would see so much of this if families spent more time with each other. These scamners play like they are the persons best friend and check on them more CD than family. Suddenly they have a crisis and they come to the rescue of the person who turns out to be a scammer. I have talked to men and women who have lost $400,000 and up on the east coast and west coast. They are very educated people but made a bad decision.

@blondesense17083 жыл бұрын
@@Liitebulb You may be good looking (we’ll take your word for it) but your reading comprehension needs work. How can the comment be discriminatory against good looking people, when the people in the pictures aren’t the ones doing the scamming? We can’t see the scammers so nothing anyone says is even remotely related to the way they look. If you watch the other episodes there are numerous people in love with famous porn stars or models, that is who they are calling good looking.

As somebody who works for the bank, yes! If you have the account number used in a scam, please please please let us know. We may not be able to get your money back to you, but we can internally look into the account, and hopefully help protect others.

The people don't "lose" their money. They hand it over happily, willingly. The more these videos are put on You Tube, the more the information gets out. Maybe the romance scammers will dwindle in numbers until it stops completely. Referring to a person as a "victim" absolves them of the part they played. It also takes away any personal power they have in what they can do with their life.
