Oh, and I forgot to mention, Peter Ackroyd is a GREAT biographer. His Dickens tome, wow. Just wow. I hope you enjoy! If you like it, I'll certainly be getting my hands on a copy

I have his doorstopper on Dickens too, but that's going to have to wait for another time. :) Will keep you posted re: his bio on Collins. (Much shorter!)

Really excited to participate in Victober for the first time after watching YT videos about it for the last years. I plan on reading The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins and rereading Wuthering Heights, because I crave that intense drama when the fall starts to set in and the days get darker again. I’ve just finished The Count of Monte Cristo (very proud of myself, although it was such an easy read in the sense that it didn’t drag along) and now some Tiffany Reisz as a palette cleanser and some good steaminess 🤭 Then I’ll be ready for Victober.
@RoadReads4 ай бұрын
Reading The Count of Monte Cristo is a worthwhile accomplishment!! Congratulations! 🎉🎊 I hope you love The Moonstone…I sure did! And it you’re yearning for drama, Wuthering Heights will deliver in abundance. 😂 Happy first Victober to you!!

What a wonderful TBR! I love how you've tried to keep to a realistic and managable TBR for the month. I'm starting to get carried away with all of the fun possibilities and combinations of books to meet the challenges myself, but I think that Armadale, The Return of the Native, and The Time Machine may just make it onto my list this year too. Happy almost Victober!

I have read just about all of Oscar Wilde's plays. He is brilliant and a man of tremendous wit. I also recommend his novel The Picture of Dorian Grey. I know a lot of people are including this in their Victober reading and I will be rereading it myself.

Wow - what a huge amount to read! You must be a very fast reader. I'm betting you'll really enjoy Barchester Towers. I've heard such good things about it. I think it's really neat the way you follow up with biographies, etc. of authors you've read too. I won't be participating in the group read but I'm hoping to get to The Forsyte Saga by James Galsworthy. I think that book qualifies. I'll have to see when it was written. I read The Dollmaker last year and then watched a video of the author, Harriet Arnow, that was really interesting. It showed her in her little shed where she did her writing and she described her process. Best of luck for Victober!

Thank you for watching, Betsy! I don't think of myself as a fast reader, but I'm a strong medium-paced reader. :)

Oh happiest way to start a day... breakfast watching your Victober video ! I read "Return of the Native" last year maybe... I really liked it, one day I'll give Tess another go. I also have lying in wait "The Mayor Of Casterbridge" My only set goal for this Victober is to finally read "Wuthering Heights" and "Cranford" I have no idea if I've even spelt those correctly.... Here's to warm blankets, a big mug of tea and all the Victober reads !!!
@RoadReads4 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching, Karen!! You'll have to let me know which side of the fence you land on after reading Wuthering Heights! And I think you'll find Cranford delightful -- it gets better (and less trivial) as it you get further into it. Happy Friday!

As much as I love Victober, I'm saddened because I discovered both Jennifer and Alice's channels during last Victober. 😢 Armadale is terrific, I hope you enjoy it. I'm going easy on myself this year. My only definites are The Doctor's Wife and The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Time permitting, I might read a short Wilkie Collins and Can You Forgive Her.

I can’t wait for you to meet Mrs Proudie in Barchester Towers, Susan, the fearsome 😱 wife of the bishop. A horrible woman, who actually rules instead of her husband, but she also made me laugh so hard!

Ohhh i love Barchester Towers!! His usual apology in the first 2 chapters for having to info dump you to set the political and religious feeling of the day then he gets to it. And like you i really liked The Warden. Love it after a 2nd reading earlier this year. I've read those Sherlocks too. I plan to read more of that next month too. I love your plan!! Can't wait to see what you think abt Armadale. I think that was Jennifer's fav? I have only read 1 WC so if i get to him next month (my mood has been crazy lately) I'm going to go with The Moonstone. I went ahead and started Dr Thorne yesterday because that's what my mood said and i read The Invisible Man for shorty Sept😅. So i got started early. I'll be reading The Trumpet Major by Hardy later in Oct for a patreon I'm in and i might read Far From the Madding Crowd if my mood holds. That's a good idea to listen to OWs play. I might do that so i can knit at the same time.
@RoadReads4 ай бұрын
Sounds like you have a wonderful Victober plan! I think Jennifer's favorite Collins was The Woman in White. But she said Armadale is his best plot. But don't quote me. ;) ENJOY the rest of your September reading!!

I am subscribed and wrote down some of your suggestions. I've seen a few "Victober" book tube channels already. Many recommended Sherlock Holmes, Hound Of The Baskervilles for Victober AND Autumn! Maybe you could read that one. I have it (unread) so I am thinking of it. SO many good choices for Victober have to give this ALOT of thought; esp. NOT to set myself up for failure. Thank you!😊

The plan: 'The Nottingham Hill Mystery' (form). 'Rhys Lewis, Minister of Bethel' (religion) 'Quid Pro Quo' Catherine Gore (play - me determined to find a female Victorian playwright) but I do love the film version of 'An Ideal Husband' - not sure about the serialisation a lot of them are, maybe Gaskell or Trollope 'The Law and the Lady' (Collins) one of the Sherlock Holmes stories. I will probably rewatch Alice and Jennifer.
