You make it look so easy. I am jealous. 😂 I am just starting to learn safe locks.

Rick, I have been interested in safes for years, like 70+. I remember the safe in the office where my dad worked. He eventually ended up owning the place, and when it closed, the safe was coming home with me. That was around 1985ish. I knew nothing about the combination lock, and luckily, it wasn't locked. Being a gear head, I figured the brains were in the removable part on the door. It didn't take me long to ascertain how it functioned and changed the combination from 50-50-50-0 to what it is now. There were a few tests to be positive, my combination worked, and it was good to close. It is a Mosler from Hamilton, Ohio. There's an Underwriters Laboratory tag with a number stenciled on it. Would this be the serial number for the safe? Obviously, I enjoy your work, but I don't have the patience to try it on mine.

@Mike44460 yes, that would be the serial number. But the serial number doesn't tell us much about the combination since they can be changed.

@MBSAFCRKR I understand that. It's open and working with my own combination. I want to see if I can get an idea of the year it was manufactured. It's 11858 FYI. To add to my safe adventures, there was a guy at work who had a passed down safe. It wasn't locked, so I told him how to pull the wheel assembly (?) out, and he brought it to work. I took it apart and took pictures of each wheel so he knew the combination and told him how to change it. Better be sure it works before you close the door I emphatically told him.
