I've always had a soft spot for the abhuman options in the Astra Militarum range. There's just something properly weirdabout ratlings and ogryns that makes them so compelling - throw in a few psykers to really put the Imperial in the Imperial Guard! Still, there's only a small selection (no pun intended) of ratling miniatures available to the plucky Imperial Guard commander... until now!

At this point, Victoria miniatures’ stuff looks better than the actual GW offerings. Come to think of it, if GW had simply copied Victoria Miniatures approach to having their Imperial Guard infantry be available as individual parts (allowing hobbyists to kitbash their own regiments), that might make Imperial Guard even more popular.

Good call! I kinda take it for granted that gloss or matt are obvious, but if there's a reason for choosing there's a clue there which might be new to someone else.

@@SonicSledgehammerStudio also maybe include how to save minis when the varnish fails and you get the frosting effect. not everyone knows about the olive oil trick :)

If this helps ya I use Vallejo satin varnish. I thin it with a mattmedium normally but water will do. One or two coats will do. if you want a more matte finish you can go over the model with a layer of thinned matte medium

Ok, these seems very differents from the old ones that GW tried to add to the early IG's armies, first of all they are very well detailed and not so caricatural, perhaps they will have more success. Their colours you choose remember the early WWII US uniform, with green jacket and brown pants.

Always lovely work, thinking of Ogryns and Ratlings and all those not-quite human stuff this fits really well with your previous Ogryn painting video! I gotta say too, I know you might say it's right out of your wheelhouse but I'd really love to see you tackle something like an AoS Giant or Gryph creature like a Gryph Hound or Gryph Charger, or even just a 40K Dreadnought or something. Those sorts of models always feel so intimidating and I'd love to see how you go about just 'getting it done'. Also, as a side note I can always highly recommend Ungor Flesh as an extreme tippy top highlight if you ever want a model to have that sweaty, slightly greasy look. Works wonders and just gives that slight sense of location if you're basing someone in a jungle or a desert!

there's a lot of fun old lore about the 40k halflings, the Ratlings,, how they are really really inbred and have very short lifespans, but have amazing eyesight and are some of the best snipers the Empire has to offer, but they also stink a lot so regular guardsmen complain about it. they're a pretty funny subsection of humanity, too bad GW only sells the 5 man sniper set and stopped with the other sets

Cool paint job, cool mini. What would you do to draw a little more attention to the kill markings on his rifle? Fun detail and the pose basically presents it to the viewer, but I struggle to come up with something that wouldn't look out of place...

great paintjob! I like the Victoria Miniatures as well, however the some of them I have bought some time ago had a lot of deformed parts and the details were not very crisp. Maybe I had a bad batch because what I see on youtube from their miniatures they do have better details there. I wanted to use them to kitbash my Cadians from GW, but Victuria Miniatures are a bit too small for that. I have baked for the halflings too, maybe I will buy some more miniatures to use them as a squad of their own.

I use the Victoria Miniatures Highlanders heads and legs with Cadian torsos and arms, they are a perfect fit I find. Only thing that sucks about them is the transport from Australia to Europe :P

@@RotnDot OK, I have tried it with the Victorian Guard legs, but unfortunately they were a bit too small for the Cadian body.

When you say that you love Ogryns... (and ratlings). I assume you've heard about the Landsknecht Ogres that Wargames Atlantic is about to release? They contain Sci-fi bits too, so if you want garish ogryns... ;)

Yeah, I've seen the photos and such they've put out. They're a little more old-school Warhammer Fantasy than I'd like, but I'm already rolling in metal Ogryns so it's much of a much for me. 😅
