Victorian Era Shogun 2 Mod: The Carlist Wars

Hello and welcome to my review of Total Fall of the Samurai's The Carlist Wars (Alpha 38). This Victorian Era Mod coverages the First Carlist War from 1833-1840. From France to Africa, and the Iberian Peninsula revolution rapidly spreads and nations are engulfed in civil war. This mod has the potential to become the Victoria Total War game I've been dying to play.

@@izzitfs2311 i also have a suggestion for the carlist wars mod, where once your time has been freed up, i think a minor franco prussian war event can be squeezed if not made a part of the game with prussia as an emerging faction in the eastern area of map. For the last Carlist war took place in 1872-1876, the Franco prussian war took place from 1870-1871. Again, this is just if you have free time

Bit of a fun fact; the two times the carlists sieged Bilbo (at different carlist wars) they got their generals killed. The first time was Zumalacarregi getting hit by a cannon ball and the second was a musket ball striking the carlist general. Another less fun fact; carlists would later on side with Franco (yes, that one) during the spanish civil war (the latest of spains civil wars) and after the war was over Franco didn't give them what they asked for (which was why they sided with him)

For the less fun fact, the "requetes" were usually anti communist, and franco destoryed the monarchism in carlism with the unification decree. the real carlists went to exile, manuel fal conde, his son was born in portugal because of this.

Units in the first 2 tiers will be using smooth bore muskets so their accuracy will be very bad but to offset this all of them get aces to the buck and ball ability which turns their muskets into shotguns firing about 4 shots at once but reducing the units range by halve. Spanish units had at this point not been added to the game.

Has been a time. Glad to tell you the mod is moving forward. Had a bit of a delay (with all the nice CA updates and private life). But i hope for an alpha release end of this year/beginning next year.

When playing the Scramble for the East version I noticed just how useless standard line volleys were. There is basically no reason to not frontal charge with cavalry because you will only take a half dozen losses on the way in. Looking at the stats of the higher tier units and how they weren't all that much better makes it seem like pure melee is the way to go. I am pretty sure the low damage of the projectiles is the main culprit, as units in FOTS with worse stats cause far more damage per volley.

Has been revamped btw. Higher damage by projectiles by 50% and lower damage by melee (especially cav). You must understand that those are tier 1 units that uses the lowest military tech of the Early Victorian Age. Also, you can't see all the stats of the units. Some are global stats. Elite units for example have hidden stats you can't see. They are more difficult to kill and give an extra morale boost to neighboring units.

@@izzitfs2311 With the SftE mod I poked around in the mod files to see what was going on, and I used higher tier infantry as well. I'm quite familiar with the inner workings of the game (Made a few overhaul mods myself). I do hope there was a buff to ranged units, they needed it.

@@demomanchaos Yep they have, as i just explained. Made a buff after some feedback from others. This was an earlier version. The newer early alpha has increased damage levels. The Scramble uses different stats when playing a battle. Totally different mod (game).

Looks great, but I wished they expanded the map more north and east including france germany russia and so on. That would be absoultly amazing ;) They already have the unit models from Scramble for the far east, so they would only have to do the battle maps and campaign map

I love the look of this mod but is it just me or do the animations look slightly too fast, like they are on fast forward?

There were some times during the battles where I made several cuts to shorten the video length and in the one battle during the campaign I played on a faster speed so that might be why lol
