Great video and thank you so much for posting it! I was born and raised in Sunderland (though I haven't lived there since about 1970) and had no idea about this pumping station or the museum. It will be a must see for me should I have the chance to visit my home town someday. Once again, many thanks, and keep up the good work. It is really very much appreciated. Well done.

I'm a volunteer there and I was on site giving the odd tour history and firing the Lancashire boiler made in Manchester each beam weighs 22 ton and they got it over the bridge even though there wearnt aloud they encouraged the owner of the bridge into the pub and got it over by horse the well is deeper taller than than the chimney and the steam winch is the oldest surviving as it was before John Fowler made his design and still operational to this day the winch was made by kitson and hewitson

Another great and interesting video. I've never been to the museum (yet), but I'll be adding it to my list of local historical places to visit. Keep up the great work 😊👍

My last and only "visit" to this pumping station was a while ago. I guess they have repaired the cast iron pallisade fence at the main road? Travelling one winter night in 1972 or so, from Sunderland to Durham in my Lotus Cortina I hit a patch of black ice. Black ice is quite invisible at night until your car lights illuminate it when close. At speed that threw the car into an uncontrollable spin and we careered off road, backwards up the embankment to the fence and took out maybe 20 - 30 metres of fencing. I remember thinking "I hope none of these spear-like bits of broken fencing come through my windscreen or roof of the car or I am a dead man!" The car was damaged at the back, quite badly but still could be driven, so I went home!
