It's such a wonderful tool. I use it a lot! I haven't looked for aftermarket pouches. I seized the opportunity to have a go at learning to make one. Very happy with the results.

Hi, this is helpful. I’m a woman with average sized hands and I’ve been worried about this knife being too big as most men doing reviews focus on it being huge. Do you think it would be comfortable? The wood handled version also looks great, I wish it was more affordable. Thanks!

Yes! I think you will find it to be very comfortable to use. It's my favorite knife. I use it all the time. It's a nice size. The knife blade is large enough to be very versatile and more useful than a smaller pocket knife, yet not so big as to be unwieldy. I too like the looks of the one with the wooden handle. Whichever style you choose, I think you will enjoy using it. It is quite comfortable to hold.

Leatherman is a super tool. It should not be compared with a Victorinox

Victorinox is my favorite knife company.I carry a SAk everyday and have several different models.I would like to add the Firefly and Fire Ant flint steels work great but have their limitations.I highly suggest watching the how to use video before using them. Good review!

The other thing about the Fire Ant....it doesn't work to good unless the SAK has a saw.The Firefly works with the saw but also the notch on the can opener.

Interesting question. As far as the knife and other tools are concerned for use, I would say they are equal. The difference are the scales and the metal finish. The Ranger Grips have very low profile rubber grip areas on their scales. The Ranger Grip Onyx has stunning dark metal. The Ranger Wood has beautiful walnut scales and stainless steel tools. So, to me it is a matter of aesthetic. I think they would both handle well in wet conditions.

Using a new kninewwithout 1st sharpening it,is like driving a new car,without adding oil to the engine. We have to establish a proper edge and remove the "burnt" damaged steel that the fast belts on factories unfortunately create.Also, The steel will show its true potential on both edge stability and edge retention, only after 2 to 3 full sharpening sessions.

how are the rubber grip inserts holding a year later? I have an older version of the ranger series and those parts started falling apart and delaminating a year or two after getting it.

The rubber grip inserts are doing well. I can see how that could be a weak spot though. I keep the knife in a leather sheath that I made. Maybe that is helping. ?

@@wobblyotteroutdoors thanks for the info, the leather sheet probably helps. I think I'll go for the wood scales version however, as I've taken a look at my old wenger knife and the scales are basically falling apart. Maybe they changed the rubber's formula since then.

Oh, the walnut scaled Ranger Grip looks so nice, and definitely eliminates rubber grip issues.
