The American knife market often seems to go for high-end steels, fast opening methods and lock ups. Víctorionox seems to represent a more Euro-centric view; high quality fit and finishing, dependability, good value with easy maintenance and sharpening. I love all kinds of knives but Víctorionox have cornered the market for anyone who wants a high quality, easy to use, no nonsense, everyday carry.

but the knife steel is caca, I'm not dissing Victorinox, I collect SAK's myself, but the steel is poop, needs regular sharpening if it's in regular use, (mine's used a lot so it sees a lot of touch ups), I can't speak for the rest of the american knife market but I do like high end knife steel but I also appreciate the lower end steels, they all have their place, I like flicking my knives and I like slip joints, really just depends on the day for me personally and the lock ups, I'm still fairly new to edc/pocket knives and don't know enough about lock up to make an educated opinion just yet. Anyways, I try to appreciate all aspects of pocket knives, I love my PM3 with custom AWT scales, pocket clip and spyderco bead, but I enjoy my Huntsman just as much. You speak like you know a lot about knives, how long have you been in the hobby?? Do you mod or work on them or anything?

In the year and seven months since you started your channel you have amassed quite a large collection of SAK’s spanning the spectrum of the Victorinox collection, I too have tried to hit all the different categories they have manufactured over the years. There always seems to be another model to seek out. It’s hard to know when to quit. Thanks for sharing parts of your collection with the KZbin community.

I prefer the milder steels, they are way more practical both for EDC and for bushcraft. My first pocket knife was a Wenger Handyman. As a kid I did not have a whetstone, so I got two kinda flat pieces of sandstone out of the woods, rubbed them together to make them even flatter, and kept the blade shaving sharp with that sandstone. Victorinox has really good QA, that is why I keep buying from them. Doesn't matter how many layers the knife is, there is never any rub, it always has great walk and talk, the stuff that is supposed to be sharp is sharp. You can just buy a new SAK and know it is going to be ready for service.

Really enjoyed this. These knives always evoke warm memories such as when we got our first ever one and if we still have it. My Spartan from 1970 has held up so well. They are affordable and if properly cared for will last forever. Also with all the restrictions on carrying knives, those of us who grew up with always having a penknife in your pocket can continue to do so with many of these. Tinker in my pocket and a Classic on my keys.

I'm getting to a point that I don't know which knife to carry. It's either a compact or yeoman but I'm still waiting on a Yeoman Mechanic to be made - in the meantime I'm waiting on a cheap used Climber I ordered so I can take it apart and when I'm ready take apart my Angler and make it into a Deluxe Angler/Waterman by adding the scissors from the Climber to it.

Yeah it's always a conundrum. Climber, Tourist, Spartan, Compact, Sportsman, a Wenger Traveler 🤷🏼♂️

I almost always carry a classic. I love the scissors and the blade does everything I ask of it. If I lose it or have to give it up to the TSA, I just have to find a Wal-Mart and I'm back in the game.

I rotate between my Victorinox Compact, Victorinox Pioneer X, and my Victorinox Soldier ‘08 for my EDC and they never failed me. I love their history and their simplicity, and their endless options that suits someone’s need, and it just so happened that those three that I have suits mine. Thanks for the video

Great video, many thanks for sharing. We have 4 or 5 Classic SD's knocking around the house, on key rings, etc and they are used almost every day. I fitted a set of titanium scales to my SD which means I get the feel of the Alox but can still keep the tweezers and the toothpick My other go to is the Pioneer X Alox which I have cut off the key ring to make it the knife I really wanted. The perfect EDC So many choices, so as you say there really is a Victorinox for everyone.

Great collection man! Can i just tell you one littttttllleeee thing? On that cybertool light you said: "this bit is onesided and all others are twosided...." That "onesided" is rly twosided, it just has a 4mm hex bit on one side so it looks "flush". Great for IKEA furniture hahah

I think too many people disparage the blade steel on these knives. It is an old steel and doesn't bring the flash of newer steels but it is easy to sharpen, takes a perfectly good edge, holds that edge for a reasonable amount of usage, and doesn't rust. Victorinox has said that they will soon be offering more types of steel, so that should fill a demand from the market, but no one can say their current steel hasn't stood the test of time.

I love the victorinox steel, works perfectly well

2024 Winter Magic came out today in the U.S. and it's $55. I wish these scales did something for me but they don't and will be waiting until 2027 for an Alox model that I hope I like. the 2020 Pioneer X has been the best of the bunch.
